It was held in Kansas City, MO on February 18-20th. To stand out in this tournament is a big deal because of the level of players that traveled from all over the United States. This series will be about those players that stood out to me while watching their play. Let’s meet a few of those that stood out for various reasons.
Samantha (Sammy) Destler Samantha (Sammy) Destler 6'1" | OH Marymount | 2026 State CA [2026] 5-11 Outside (HS: Marymount/Club: SCVC/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Samantha is currently an unranked prospect according to the 2026 Prep Dig California State Rankings but that will for sure change once we release them in a few weeks. She plays for Marymount High School and plays club for SCVC Volleyball. On the left side each volleyball team must have a killer who is not afraid to bang and that is exactly who Miss Destler is on the court. She is a super stud who can play a full six rotations and be dynamic in any aspect of the game that her coach needs. She is devastating at the service line also. Her right arm is an absolute cannon and she is not afraid to swing against a block. Scoring in a variety of ways including tooling off of the block is part of her game. SCVC likes to use her in the back row also during out of system plays and she usually delivers a hard swing to keep the opposition on their heels. One reason why her squad was in the championship match was due to her all around play and her willingness to be relentless with power at the net. I was very impressed with her skill set and will be watching her progress very carefully.
Macie Mathis Macie Mathis 5'11" | OH Smithson Valley | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-11 Outside (HS: Smithson Valley/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Macie is currently ranked as the 98th best overall prospect according to the 2024 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Smithson Valley High School and plays club for the awesome Alamo volleyball program out of San Antonio. I have been watching Macie for the past couple of years and she has gotten better and better each year that she has been in the sport. She has always been an aggressive player at the net and it is paying off dividends now. This year she has truly come into her own and is a lot more comfortable on the left side of the court scoring at will. I love how she is using her great vertical to not only get her elbows high above the net, but also to press and seal it away from would be attackers. Her blocking game has gotten to be at an elite level and she should start to garner a lot of attention from college coaches whoa re still looking for her position. I believe she is fully capable of playing any position along the net. She can move the ball around very well while in the air and score down the line or hard cross depending on where the block sets up on her. Coaches take note of her name now.
Kennedi Rogers Kennedi Rogers 5'10" | OH Ridge Point | 2025 State #57 Nation TX [2025] 5-10 Outside (HS: Ridge Point/Club: Absolute Volleyball Academy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kennedi is currently ranked as the 12th best overall prospect according to the 2025 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for powerhouse Ridge Point High School and plays club for Absolute Volleyball Academy. We have written about Kennedi many times over the last year and she is still wowing our scouts each time we watch her compete. I am very familiar with her game and, in my opinion, she is one of the most explosive and fun to watch players in her grad class. If anyone was to do a testing combine I am sure that Kennedi would be one of the leaders in every weight lifting exercise. Watching her play the outside position is poetry in motion. She is both graceful and super strong all at the same time. I cannot get tired of watching her compete at the highest level. The one aspect that gets overlooked is her defense and serve receive ball control as everyone is so enamored with her offensive capabilities. But, she can score in the back row and also pass/dig like a libero. She should be one every college coach’s short list for sure and if she is not…they are missing out on one gem of a player.
