The club has produced Division 1 college talent in recent years and has high hopes that it can elevate itself with the other talented clubs in Michigan and the Detroit area for this season.
Starting with 18-1, Unified has a group of talent that is motivated and working hard to get better with each set.
Unified 18-1
Lawrence Patton is coaching this squad, which features a lot of driven players eager to make a name for themselves during the club season.
This team features some powerful arms that you’ve hear of before.
Stella Day is a great all-around athlete that Unified can use all over the net. A rowing commit to Louisville, Day brings a nice mix of size and explosion to the net.
Paityn Hasselbring Paityn Hasselbring 5'8" | OH Oxford | 2023 MI and Addisyn Calcamuggio are the primary outsides for 18-1. Calcamuggio is from the Rochester Adams program and brings a strong overall skillset to the court. She’s also got a lot of leadership skills and is a great communicator. Hasselbring comes from the Oxford program and also is someone that plays with a lot of command on the floor. She’s a cagey player that does a good job of finding ways to finish points.
In the middle, Kennedy Knox, Carleigh Santavy Carleigh Santavy 6'0" | RS Walled Lake Northern | 2023 MI and Makayla Bolnick are available for Unified 18-1.
Santavy can also be used on the right side. She’s got a lot of power when she gets a full wind up on her swing. She plays with a lot of fire and helped Walled Lake Northern have a strong showing during the fall season.
Similarly, Knox can shift to the outside as well. She doesn’t have all the size as other middles, but she reads the court really well and can get a lot of velocity out of out-of-system swings. She comes from the West Bloomfield program where she adds a lot of details to her game this fall.
Bolnick can move around as well, but brings that 6-foot size to the middle. The Seaholm product has good blocking instincts and attacks angles well at the net.
Unified relies on Daria Igonin to run this set of offensive pieces. Igonin is a setter from the Belleville program that also has hitting experience of her own. That’s helped her develop good instincts for the setting position and gives her a good feel for where to get the ball.
One strength this team has is depth in the back row. Rylee Karlewski, Adriana Lane and Hannah Maynard are all listed on the roster as DS/L options. Coming from Clarkton, Belleville and Rochester Adams, respectively, all three have proven to be defensive assets. Each brings their own strengths, but communication and leadership are traits all three bring.
While the wins have been hard to come by early on in the club season, Unified 18-1 has been competing in a highly-talented set of events.
Though the team has taken a number of losses, the competitiveness has been growing with each event and they definitely aren’t far from breaking through. A little more consistency while cutting out a few unforced errors each set should help Unified 18-1 take that next step.
