They usually have a strong arm and are able to create a lot of power. They also block at the net and some right sides also help with setting the ball. Meet eight right side hitters from the 37th annual Las Vegas Classic. They are the hidden gems who stepped into their position with the ability, skills and talent to grow further in the sport. They are in order of their graduating year.
Ava Broadbent
Ava Broadbent
Ava Broadbent has an advantage playing right-side being a left handed hitter. Her arm does not have to cross her body but rather hit with a straight swing. She is quick with good footwork. Broadbent has a strong arm and the ability to jump high and make contact in the air with the ball.
Isabella Quigg
Isabella Quigg
Isabella Quigg has no problem adjusting to a set to keep a ball in play. She has a strong swing and high hands at the net for blocks. She is good at reading the court by placing the ball in open areas. Quigg can also play defense in backrow.
Lauren Angsupanich
Lauren Angsupanich
Lauren Angsupanich knows how to react and play the ball off the net. She stayed ready to defend the ball by blocking at the net. She scored on offense. Angsupanich puts power behind her hit which adds speed to the ball.
Priscilla Kim
Priscilla Kim
Priscilla Kim is quick at the net that many blockers were not ready for her attack and she placed the ball right over them (as seen in her photo). Her quick footwork and transition made her kills look easy. Kim blocks at the net and with her long reach and can recover tips.
Natalie Ratkiewicz
Natalie Ratkiewicz
Natalie Ratkiewicz uses her height to help block at the net and roof opponents. She has a strong quick swing that snaps the ball down. Ratkiewiczs uses her quick feet and transition to get better on top of a set.
Julie Watney
Julie Watney
Julie Watney also plays beach volleyball. She has a quick approach and can transition in the air to score. She has a strong swing which can change the velocity of a ball by adjusting her hit. Watney has plenty of power to score on offense.
Shelby DeYoung
Shelby DeYoung
Shelby DeYoung uses her left hand advantage by capitalizing on shorter sets since the ball doesn’t have to cross her body. Some left-handed hitters are hard to dig because of how they contact the ball and the spin it creates. DeYoung can hit cross court or downline.

Alizae Leilua Alizae Leilua 5’7″ | DS/L Lakewood | 2026 CA has a solid passing platform that is controlled. She is a strong right-side who can shut down an opponent’s outside hitter. Leilua has quick footwork and a fast transition that is also implemented in her approach.
