Continue ReadingThe OJVA 16-2 Blue team has maintained a strong front this season. At all Power Leagues this season they have competed very well in Flight #1 and have maintained a top seed throughout. After the last tournament, they have secured the #1 seed in the CEVA 16U division yet again (not including the teams competing in the Open division). The group is a solid combination for returners, athletes aging up from 14s and 15s, as well as a few talented newbies. Returning, but his season as the head coach, is Jon Lex, who is also a part of the Southridge High School program. Assisting him is OJVA alum Alexa Basauri, who comes back to the club with collegiate playing and coaching experience.
Comer is returning to the OJVA 16 Blue team and should see a similar role as she did last season as their primary libero. Comer showcases high-level play across the back row and is a definite anchor for the team. She is steady across the board, both on serve receive and defense. She is incredibly athletic and speedy, so she is able to react to tougher balls and keep the team in rallies. From the service line, she brings a tough jump float serve that garners plenty of aces and disruptions.
Kitchin comes to the club after previously playing for NW Elite 15 Gold and has made an immediate impact. Playing in the middle, she has showcased a lot of improvement over these past few months and has become an offensive weapon. Quick in transition, and vocal, she is consistently utilized and establishes herself early on as a threat. She does a good job turning the ball to right back and mixing up her attack locations.
Geymann comes to the club after previously playing a bulk of her career at Athena. She solidified herself as a solid setter and has proven a major an asset to the 16 Blue team. Geymann and Rachel Cohrs Rachel Cohrs 5’9″ | S Catlin Gabel | 2025 State OR have often split duties running a 6-2 system. However, she has no problem running a 5-1 and setting across the front given her 5’8” frame. She does a good job establishing her middles and running them consistently. She executes a faster offense which creates one-on-one opportunities for attackers.
Highlights
Holder is returning to OJVA after playing for their 15-1 team last season so she came into this club season with a high level of play under her belt. As a utility player she can step into any position and thrive. However, her defensive abilities are at the forefront of her game. She showcases a quick reaction time and is able to keep the team in rallies. When hitting, she has a decent vertical jump, a powerful swing, and is incredibly spart with her placement. Skill aside, she is an intensely positive force on the court, the ultimate hype person for her teammates.
Rasmussen is another OJVA returner from the 15-1 team last season. However, last club season she worked primarily at setting, and given than she is joining setters Rachel Cohrs Rachel Cohrs 5’9″ | S Catlin Gabel | 2025 State OR and Kaarina Geymann Kaarina Geymann 5’9″ | S Beaverton | 2025 State OR , her role this season has looked different. Rasmussen has been primarily utilized as a defensive specialist and right-side hitter. A leftie, the right pin is a natural fit for this athletic attacker. When playing right back defense, she is often set in the backrow for her attack as well.
Highlights
Morgan is another OJVA returner from the 15-1 team last season. While she saw a decent amount of court time last season, she is taking on a much larger role this season with 16 Blue both offensively and defensively. A six-rotation outside hitter, she is shouldering a major offensive load. She has a solid technical foundation across the board, so she has the makings of being a very solid all-around pin hitter. Across the backrow, she is a solid defender and a consistent serve receive passer. Attacking, she has an impressive vertical jump, a quick arm, and is smart with her placement.
