I was in heaven watching some amazing volleyball over the three-day weekend of this wonderful event put on by USA Volleyball. This series will be about those players that stood out to me while watching their play. Let’s meet a few of those that stood out for various reasons.
Erin Mack Erin Mack 5'11" | RS Mustang | 2024 OK [2024] 5-11 Right Side (HS: Mustang/Club: Rise/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Erin is currently an unranked prospect according to the 2024 Prep Dig Oklahoma State Rankings, but is now on our watch list and has what it takes to be ranked at the next update with what I saw in person at Sunshine Classic National Qualifier. She plays for Mustang High School and plays club for Rise Volleyball. When it comes to weapons on a volleyball team, it really helps if you have someone who can bring some heat on the opposite side of the net. Erin does an amazing job of providing some amazing swings and blocking on the right side for Rise 17’s. Miss Mack plays well above the net and has a healthy dose of power that her team uses to spread the attack out along the net. She has impeccable blocking timing that she uses to stifle opposing outsides. I love how she presses over the net to seal it away causing the hitter to hit around her if they want a chance to score. This young lady deserves a few looks from teams who need a strong net presence on their roster in a few years. We will have more on Miss Mack as we continue to watch her journey. Stay tuned for more.
Lauren Perry Lauren Perry 6'0" | OH Denton | 2024 State #44 Nation TX [2024] 6-0 Outside (HS: Denton/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: UTEP)
Lauren is currently ranked as the 9th best overall prospect according to the 2024 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Denton High School and plays club for the nationally recognized Dallas Skyline program. I have been following Lauren’s junior volleyball career for a while now and I am amazed at how she has continued to stay super consistent as a point scorer. Some players just have “it” and she is definitely one of these blessed athletes who has worked hard at her craft. I was able to watch a few matches for this three-day tourney and any time her team needed a point, she was right there to give it to them. Many speculated that after losing some key pieces of their team from last year to another program, that it would be a down year for them. Maybe they forgot how fearless and dangerous of a player Miss Perry is. The future University of Texas at El Paso recruit can score at a very high clip and has ball control that will keep her team in any match. She has a very high volleyball IQ and uses it during many aspects of the game for her squad. She is the type of player that I would pick first in any pick up game situation because of her all around game and ability to score from anywhere on the court.
Shea Bruntmyer Shea Bruntmyer 5'8" | S Abilene Christian | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-8 Setter (HS: Abilene Christian/Club: Tejas/Verbal: Pepperdine)
Shea is currently ranked as the 83rd best overall prospect in the state according to the 2024 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Abilene Christian High School and plays club for Tejas. I was lucky enough to be introduced to Shea in person this year as she attended a few of our Prep Dig Showcases in December. It was a true joy to get to know her and watch her compete in many different settings. I was very interested to watch her team compete in the Open division against some stellar competition. Shea was masterful in the way she distributed the ball to all of her teammates. I love how she jump sets from all over the court making the opposing middle have to honor her jump, due to the fear of her dumping the ball, and allowing just enough of a hesitation to their lateral movement to close the block, thus giving her pin attacker a one on one versus the block. Her serve is pinpoint accurate and super stifling to opposing receivers. She is silky smooth with her movement and it is just a beautiful thing for a volleyball purist to watch. She is committed to Pepperdine University and will be an immediate impact player for them once she steps on campus in a few years.
