A lot of the analysis has come from watching these players in person and also by watching the amazing footage that has been uploaded to everyone’s recruiting profiles. We have been talking to a lot of coaches across the country and this class is littered with college prospects. The following players showed us all that they deserved to be added to the rankings due to their individual performances.
Ruby Hill Ruby Hill 6'3" | S Jserra | 2025 State #69 Nation CA [2025] 6-1 Setter (HS: JSerra/Club: Wave/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ruby is currently ranked as the 4th best overall prospect and top setter in the Prep Dig California State Rankings for the class of 2025. She plays at JSerra High School and club for the nationally recognized Wave volleyball program. Every college coach in the country would like to have a six-foot tall setter who can unleash bombs as an elite attacker also. That is exactly who Ruby is as a player on the volleyball court. Versatility is the name of the game in this day and age of volleyball at the next level and it gives a program so much more to play around with lineup-wise. She possesses the ability to drive the ball down the line or around the block as an attacker on both pins. Her talented squad uses her mainly on the opposite side and it has made their offense come to life every time I have seen them compete at the Open level. As a setter, she contacts the ball at the same place on her forehead which showcases her technical skills. Most taller setters aren’t able to quickly track passes/digs down and it hurts their ability to locate their sets, but not Miss Hill. She is very quick on the court and that stems from her ability to play sand volleyball at a high level also. If any programs have both sports, she would be a nice recruit to check out. Please help us congratulate her on earning the top setter spot in our State Rankings.
Kalyssa Blackshear Kalyssa Blackshear 6'4" | MB Torrance | 2025 State #58 Nation CA [2025] 6-3 Middle (HS: Torrance/Club: Surfside/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Please welcome Kalyssa to the prestigious State Rankings. Miss Blackshear is currently ranked as the 5th best overall prospect and top middle in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays for Torrance High School and also for the Surfside volleyball club. Every program would like a tall, powerful, high-flying middle who is a proven stopper to seal the net away from would-be attackers and that is just what you will find in Kalyssa. The first time I saw her earlier this year at the Triple Crown Invitational tournament in Kansas City I was amazed at her ability to get off of the floor so effortlessly. A lot of taller players do not possess the ability to jump well, but she for sure does this so well. Hear great hang-time and super high contact point make it very difficult for anyone to slow her down. She hits the ball so crisp at a sharp angle around the block, which makes it tough for anyone to dig it also. Liberos always have to lunge outside of their base to try to touch the ball. It was a no-brainer for us to select her as the top middle in the class with everything that she has been able to do against the best competition in the nation. She is a game changing volleyball player to have on a roster. Do not pass up the opportunity to recruit this young lady, as you will not be disappointed. Please help us congratulate her on earning the top middle spot on our State Rankings list.
Ava Poinsett Ava Poinsett 6'0" | OH Francis Parker | 2025 State #60 Nation CA [2025] 5-10 Outside (HS: Francis Parker/Club: Coast/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Please welcome Miss Poinsett officially to the State Rankings. Ava is currently ranked as the 6th best overall prospect and 4th best outside hitter in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays for Francis Parker High School and also for the nationally recognized Coast volleyball club. She made it very tough for me to finalize the rankings list because while there were players who had some better physical attributes that will attract high-level college coaches, Ava just produces better in big moments. All Ava does is score points and ball at a high level. Point blank she is a beast. Her ability to score the ball is unmatched as she can cut the ball around the block with surgeon-like precision or tool the block at-will. Anyone who has gone up against her in the past couple of years knows that she is going to get her points. You can only hope that you slow her down a little and stop everyone else on her team in order to have a chance to win. The other aspect that I love about her play is that she is a work-horse for her squad. I don’t stat their matches, but it is likely that she has around 65 percent of their attacking attempts per game. She never wavers or gets flustered during tough moments either. All she does is keep coming at you like a movie monster who cannot be killed. If anyone tries to sleep on her because of her height, you will be destroyed! If any coach wants a true six-rotation outside hitter who can be a primary passer in serve receive and score at will, give her a solid look and don’t worry about height. Please help us congratulate her on earning a high spot in our State Rankings List.
