With day one in the books for the three-day JVA World Challenge, here are three teams that showed out today. All three of these teams finished 3-0, all three have at least three primary players, and all three look to compete hard for the championship in 16 Open.

I mentioned this program earlier this week, but I had no idea the impact they would make. We know about their attackers, but what of the ball-control specialists? A pair of DS's from Cathedral mark this roster in Katherine Lade ('25, 5-5 DS/L, Cathedral) and Samantha Killian ('25, 5-7 DS/L, Cathedral). Both can wear the libero jersey for any program, and probably should when the fall of '25 comes around. I also like [player_tooltip player_id='172310' first='Molly' last='Beatty'] ('25, 6-0 S, Herron) running the show. Setting looks so natural to her that it's hard to believe she's listed as an outside hitter as well on their roster.

[program_tooltip program_id='430155' first='Team' last='Pineapple'] 16 Black

This is a group of STUDS. [player_tooltip player_id='192114' first='Addy' last='Tindall'] ('25, 6-3 OH, Homestead) and [player_tooltip player_id='192113' first='Ava' last='Tindall'] ('25, 6-1 MB, Homestead) produce highlight reels regularly for this roster. Addison is a second-team All-State honoree from this past fall and is a high-level primary passing outside. Ava holds her own just fine in the middle, and terminates well from in front of the setter. [player_tooltip player_id='324342' first='Katie' last='Mills'] ('25, 5-6 DS/L, Bellmont) is the purest definition of libero, and should never be served under any condition.

Boiler Juniors 161E Gold

None of us Hoosiers are surprised by any team at Boiler Juniors doing well at an open-level tournament. [player_tooltip player_id='161191' first='Taylor' last='Cripe'] ('25, 5-10 OH, South Newton) has a live arm and is a stud of an athlete. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='155212' first='Aysa' last='Thomas'] ('25, 5-10 S, Brownsburg) has been running a 5-1 in high school since her freshman year, and she makes running the offense on this squad look easy. [player_tooltip player_id='355575' first='Avery' last='Lewis'] ('26, 6-0 MB, Cathedral) is an excellent choice for an M2 for any squad looking for long, lean and athletic. Her swings and blocks are always terminal, and has that work ethic not seen from a lot of middles in this class.
