This is widely regarded as one of the toughest qualifiers of the year in the nation due to the strength of the teams in the lone star state and also because of the teams who travel from all over the country to play in it. We were lucky enough to be able to watch the elite competition over all three days and are starting this series of articles on players that stood out to us for various reasons. Here are a few of them:
Kaylee Cavazos Kaylee Cavazos 5'6" | DS/L James Madison | 2024 TX [2024] 5-8 Outside (HS: Madison/Club: South Texas Volleyball Academy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kaylee is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Madison High School and also for the South Texas Volleyball Academy program. This STVA squad is no stranger to us as we have watched them dominate over the last few years. Kaylee is a solid contributor to their success as she plays all the way around in six rotations. Her back row play is steady and she helps keep them in system during serve receive. When I watched them play she touched a lot of balls and kept their defense in the rally while in middle back. Her platform is extremely solid as she holds it firm creating a great angle during and after contact. Offensively she doesn’t make a lot of errors and understands how to use off-speed attacks in order to mix up her shots. She was super accurate with her serves during the match I saw and hit the zones she needed to in order to keep the opposing team off-balance. Miss Cavazos was a key piece as her team went on to win the Liberty Division of this prestigious tournament.
Addison Bartlett [2025] 6-0 Middle (HS: Southwest/Club: TNT/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Addison is currently an unranked prospect according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings in the 2025 class, but she is turning heads with our scouts after watching her a few times this season. She plays at Southwest High School and also for the TNT club program in south San Antonio. I have watched this young lady for a couple of years grow into a stud in the middle. The two-sport athlete also stars on the basketball court for her high school. She is able to run both higher tempo and quicker tempo sets in the middle with lots of power. Her length is something that will attract tons of college scouts, but they will truly enjoy the presence she brings on both the offensive and defensive end of the net. Addison uses great court vision in order to size up the defense and see holes to exploit with off-speed shots/tips when she needs to. During serve receive, her club team also uses her to run some high tempo balls on the left side and that shows her versatility as an attacker. Not many can change up their timing during a rally from high tempo on the left to quick out of the middle. She is someone who we will keep our eye on as she continues to progress in the sport. We were proud of her contributions to her team as she is playing up in an older age group.
Eryn Peek Eryn Peek 6'0" | MB Frisco Wakeland | 2024 State TX [2024] 6-0 Middle (HS: Frisco Wakeland/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Eryn is currently an unranked prospect according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings in the 2024 class, but has been our watch list and is playing on a very high level to be added soon. She plays at Frisco Wakeland High School and also plays club for the Dallas Skyline volleyball program. Her squad has run over the competition in two of the toughest qualifiers in the nation this season and she is a huge reason why. Her play out of the middle has been key on both the defensive and offensive end. She uses her arms very well to get her high and penetrate the net during her swing blocking toward the pins. Eryn is a true two-way middle who can affect the game plan of her opponent with what she does in the position. Miss Peek has no problem closing the block to the pins because she uses great vision to read the pass before it gets to the setter and then uses fantastic footwork to close to her pin blocker. When it comes to out of system plays, her eyes are always focused on battling at the net during joust or overpass situations and she usually comes through as the victor. Offensively, I love how she drives her footwork hard into the ground to create solid momentum in her attack. Her squad is now double qualified in the USA division of USA Volleyball Junior Nationals and Miss Peek was a key contributor to that. We are super excited about her progress and look forward to the future of being listed on the state rankings soon.
