Normally we highlight multiple athletes in each article to maximize our reach. Every now and then we will do some solo articles on some special players for different reasons. This article is about one of those special players who has been superb in two different sports over the last month. Taylor Porter Taylor Porter 5'11" | OH Cypress Ranch | 2025 State #85 Nation TX is a player who we have written about a few times over the past few years and every word has been warranted due to her amazing play. We sat down with her and asked her some questions about her recent exploits and also gotten to know her a little better. Let’s take a closer look at who she is and what she has accomplished.
Taylor Porter Taylor Porter 5'11" | OH Cypress Ranch | 2025 State #85 Nation TX [2025] 5-11 Outside/Right Side (HS: Cypress Ranch/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Taylor is currently ranked as the 8th best overall prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Cypress Ranch High School and also for the nationally recognized Houston Skyline volleyball club. Her offensive exploits on an indoor court have been well documented over the last two years as her club squad has dominated in their age group and been one of the top Open Level teams in the state. Taylor possesses top tier offensive and defensive skill sets that will not only get her to the next level but she will be an immediate impact player once she steps foot on whatever lucky school ends up getting her committed. This young lady is special because there is nothing that she cannot do on a volleyball court. She is able to play any position and do it extremely well. Her ball control is phenomenal both offensively and defensively. She packs a serious punch and can absolutely throttle the ball offensively. While in the back row her digging skills are out of this world as there is no hitter that she cannot dig. I have been lucky enough to watch her over the last few years grow into the player she is now and it has been a joy to watch.
We were able to ask Taylor a few questions and here are her responses.
Prep Dig TX: Why Volleyball? Why is it important to you? What do you love about it?
Taylor: I chose volleyball because I saw myself having a future in it. I started off playing soccer and tee ball and my family lived a few minutes away from a local volleyball club so my parents would drop me off there to play when I was 7 years old. When I think about volleyball and ask myself do I enjoy doing this…. the answer is always “YES!!!”. I love the relationships I have built with my coaches and teammates and most of all I love winning and even more I hate to lose.
Prep Dig TX: Tell me what you love about your position on the court the most?
Taylor: Well I play many different positions. I just want to be on the floor as much as possible. This season I have played every pin position and even libero; I like that I can show off multiple skills from all my positions.
Prep Dig TX: I see you also play beach volleyball. What do you love about it?
Taylor: Beach volleyball is a little more fun for me at times for some reason because there are little to no rules and no pressure and I can just go out there and have a good time.
Prep Dig TX: How is it different from indoor?
Taylor: With indoor there are more people playing and watching your every move so it’s way more intense. I am also more critical of myself because I want to show everyone what I can do. With beach it doesn’t hurt at all when you dive after a ball to dig it.
Prep Dig TX: Tell me about your recent accomplishments in both indoor and sand the past few months.
Taylor: Recently my Skyline team won 1st place at the Tour of Texas and finished 2nd at Triple Crown at the highest level and got to play the championship game on ESPN. We also won the Windy City Qualifier at the 16 Open Level at the Windy City tournament in Chicago. I was selected to attend the Under Armour Next camp this past month. And finally I also qualified for Beach Nationals at at local USAV Reqional Qualifier with my partner and Skyline teammate, Ella Lewis Ella Lewis 5'11" | OH The Woodlands | 2025 State TX . And to top it off I placed 3rd at my 16-6A district track meet and made it to the area finals.
Prep Dig TX: What are you looking for in a college program/coach?
Taylor: A program and coach that has a strong desire to win and somewhere that will push me to reach my full potential. I also think it’s important that the team culture is good and where I feel comfortable and am happy with my choice.
Prep Dig TX: What does Leadership mean to you? How do you plan on becoming a better leader this season?
Taylor: A leader is someone who it’s constantly giving their all and leaving it all out on the floor. I really try to lead by example in drills and attitude and energy. Leaders have to pick their teammates up when their down as well and still contribute even when they may not be playing their best. Leaders also have to make sure to include everyone and make each teammates feel special and important. This is what I have been trying to do this season…make everyone feel like they are the key to our teams overall success regardless of role.
Prep Dig TX: What are you looking forward to most this club season?
Taylor: I just want us to reach our full potential. My team is really talented and I feel like we have the potential to win a national championship if we can keep lifting each other up.
Prep Dig TX: What do you think is your biggest obstacle this year compared to last season? How do you plan to overcome it?
Taylor: I think my biggest obstacle last year was adapting to playing a new position as well as establishing myself as one of the main leaders. One of our key players from last year, Morgan Madison, our libero, was injured earlier in the season so everyone had to step and help more. This year I’m having an even larger leadership role and becoming someone my teammates can trust and look up to.
Prep Dig TX: What are three individual goals that you have for this club season?
Taylor: Become the best version of myself, Medal at Nationals, Earn a college scholarship.
Prep Dig TX: Tell me a time when you faced adversity in life and how you overcame it or a lesson you learned from it:
Taylor: Coming into the season, I felt like I was under the radar and not a lot of people outside of Houston knew what I brought to this team. But I was able to talk through this with my parents and coaches and focus on doing what I do and I really started performing well and having a bigger impact and really catching a lot of people’s eyes.
Prep Dig TX: Name two people that have influenced you in volleyball the most.
Taylor: It is my coaches and my family. I have been really lucky to have some supportive people around me.
Prep Dig TX: What is something that a coach has told/taught you that lives in your head rent free?
Taylor: Its not always going to look pretty and that’s ok! Just keep doing what you do and we will be fine.
Prep Dig TX: What other hobbies/interests do you have outside of volleyball?
Taylor: I love to cook and read, and hang out with my friends and make people laugh. Both of my sisters (Jordan and Reese) play sports too so I am also supporting them. My older sister plays Division I soccer at Louisiana Tech.
