It’s every players’ dream of putting on the jersey of their dream school. For these 2023 and 2024 kids, this dream has become a near reality this fall.
These last few weeks have been abundant of big announcements. The hunt for nearly all of the 2023 class has concluded and they will be off to their next adventure in the fall. For the 2024s, many have found that perfect fit and will be taking their talents to the next level.
Let’s take a look at just where the top athletes in Michigan found their calling these last few weeks.
Kiley Gallagher Kiley Gallagher 5'5" | DS/L Clarkston | 2024 State MI to Oakland
5’6 L – Clarkston/Legacy
Under the new tutelage of coach Krista Rice, the Oakland Grizzlies are off to real nice start on the recruiting front. Gallagher is one of the first for Rice’s 24 picks and its a huge one for this program. Gallagher has been on the rise as of late. After a huge season as the libero for Clarkston, she’s cemented herself as the ‘bro for Legacy 17-1 Adidas without a doubt. Gallagher will look to be big for the defensive efforts at Oakland.
Olivia Behen Olivia Behen 5'5" | DS/L Saline | 2024 State MI to Grand Valley State
5’6 L – Saline/L2
Talk about ‘bros on the rise, nobody had a bigger junior year than Olivia Behen Olivia Behen 5'5" | DS/L Saline | 2024 State MI . With Saline, Behen came into her own and was arguably the biggest reason for the Hornet’s deep tournament run. With a six dig/set average and 2.3 reception rate in the tournament, Behen knows how to perform in big moments. This is a huge pick up for GVSU, a team thats become famous for their D1 transfers as of late, Behen goes toe-to-toe with these big time transfers.
Lillian Frias to Oakland
5’11 MB – Genoa (Ohio)/Legacy
Another future Golden Grizzly, this recruit is going to pay off in big ways down the line for Rice and co. To some, this may be a head scratcher due to her size and being on a 2s squad. Believe me, Frias is the real deal. An explosive athlete with all the shots up her sleeve to put the ball away, she’s one of the most athletic in the gym. In her first season playing high level ball, Frias’ ceiling is nowhere in sight.
Taylor Smith Taylor Smith 6'1" | S Pewamo Westphalia | 2024 State MI to Eastern Michigan
6’1 S – Pewamo-Westphalia/Five:1
I’ve been waiting (maybe a little impatiently) to hear where this one was landing. No better place than the Eagles’ nest of Eastern Michigan. This program is yet another one under new leadership with former Ashland HC, Kevin Foeman. Foeman has been quick to work on the recruiting front in Ypsilanti. Smith comes alongside recent announcements of L Hannah Howard Hannah Howard 5'5" | DS/L St. Ursula (Toledo) | 2023 State OH and MB Aubreigh Oswald Aubreigh Oswald 6'2" | MB Lowell | 2023 State MI , a trio of real game changers. Smith brings in a load of championship experience, coming off of a state championship winning season with Pewamo in D3.
Alana Deshetsky Alana Deshetsky 5'8" | OH North Branch | 2024 State MI to Ferris State
5’6 OH/DS – North Branch/Legacy
Speaking of championship experience. From one perennial Division 2 powerhouse to the next, Ferris State seems most fitting for this North Branch Bronco. All these two programs know is how to win, Deshetsky fits that mold to a T. Whether we see her swinging away or in the back court, Deshetsky comes into Ferris with the perfect mentality to bring a GLIAC title or National title to Big Rapids.
