These freshman dynamos were collecting floor burns and passing nails, trying to keep every ball off the floor. The group covered here includes some first-time faces to Prep Dig, the libero talent was deep up and down the 15U pools.
Foy plays with all out hustle for her SIVA team, the freshman from Squalicum has quick feet that help her run down shots to the corners of the court. She was solid stepping in and setting the second ball with her platform, against PSVBA she found her outside hitter in a good location for an out of system swing. Foy sets her feet in anticipation of the swing, she does not waste movement guessing on the attacker.
The Kennedy Catholic freshman excelled in the serve-receive game. When Fong executed a solid pass, PSVBA was able to run their dynamic middles and terminate points off the first ball. Her serving is impressive, she mixes her locations and can drop in her jump float deep or right at the 10-foot line. Fong was reading the tip and setter dump correctly, she picked up several attempts in the match versus Puyallup Juniors and throughout the weekend.
The Dakine Surf 15-2 libero has excellent court awareness, tracking the ball and anticipating when hitters and setters attempt an off-speed shot. Kinley delivered free ball passes accurately and with the right height and tempo to keep Dakine flowing offensively. The Curtis freshman is versatile, listed as a libero, right side, and setter during the high school season. Her solid skill set and excellent effort will benefit het team at any position.
Andrews has tremendous energy and enthusiasm, top-tier traits for a libero. She plays overhand balls easily and has soft hands on free balls and tips. She will use the correct hand when she has to sprawl for a save, allowing her to keep the point alive. Apex NW had a solid showing, finishing second in the Silver Bracket after several three-set battles. Andrews was an integral part of the team’s success, she has a knack for making the on-target bump to the outside set running hard to her right, a tough skill to master.
Durham has the strength and grit to hang in against a big swing down the line, and the creativity to punch up a one-handed dig when a ball is on the way to the corner. She made play after play from left back, diving to dig out hard shots and running through on tips and roll shots. Durham is already making the correct moves to keep her setters out of the net when the attacker has pace on her swing, keeping Oly Reign from giving up easy points.
