Club Team Spotlight: Aspire NW 16-1 Empire

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Currently ranked at fourth in the CEVA 16U division with a 15-5 record in power league is Aspire NW 16-1 Empire. The team has stayed strong and steady throughout the entire season, picking up wins against several tough teams and well-established clubs. Nationally, Aspire NW 16 Empire has held their own, impressively coming in 5th in the 16 American division with a 7-1 record at the 2023 Salt Lake City Showdown. They also finished 19th out of 152 teams at the 2023 Matt Hartner Memorial Classic. With only Regionals left for CEVA tournaments, it will be fun to see how this team finishes. Aspire NW 16 Empire is coached by SueAnn McWatters, who coached at NW Reign Volleyball Club for several years before moving to Aspire NW within the last couple of years. Day blocks and transitions with speed and efficiency, using her length to reach high over the net to stop other teams' offense. When she is set, Day combines a quick and explosive approach with a fast arm swing to put the ball away. She showcases excellent discipline on defense as she moves around the court to pass and cover hitters, and she isn't afraid to step in to set the ball on the second touch when needed. Despite being a bit undersized for an attacker, Ordona has an incredibly impressive vertical, which she uses in combination with a wicked arm swing to bury the ball. Ordona is a steady and strong passer on serve receive and defense, too, where she makes diving plays to keep the ball in play. Raley works tirelessly to get to the ball with her hands to put up a hittable set, even off of a bad pass, and her sets are consistent, even from the opposite side of the court.
