OK, so it doesn't rhyme, sorry. However, here are four defensive dandies for the class of '25 that have made waves this past club season and look to continue that trend into the club postseason and next fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='155213' first='Addi' last='Applegate'], 5-6, Yorktown, Munciana

What better way to start this article than with a 1st team All-State honoree. Addi joins a long line of defenders from Yorktown with state championship experience and high level Munciana training. Cut from the same cloth as so many Tigers, you can trace multiple passers currently in college all the way back to Yorktown. Addi is no different, and her experience, leadership and all-around defensive skill set proves it match-in and match-out. I would not be surprised if she were the first class of '25 defender to commit somewhere, most likely a Power Five conference.

[player_tooltip player_id='172311' first='Gracie' last='Bordenet'], 5-4, Lafayette Central Catholic, Boiler Juniors

Another with state championship experience, Gracie is a two-sport star in both volleyball and basketball. She's trained by the best passing trainers in Lafayette and already has a national championship through the AAU under her belt. Gracie can be placed anywhere on the floor with any team around her and automatically makes them better, full stop.

[player_tooltip player_id='172320' first='Chloe' last='Hunter'], 5-3, Franklin Central, Academy

The libero for Academy's 16-2 squad, Chloe is a smaller version of Gracie. Always in the right spot and always anticipating well, Miss Hunter has active feet and a quiet upper body to play her position at an elite level. I like her work ethic and ability to overcome her size by taking long strides to get to off-speed shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='173239' first='Avery' last='Freeman'], 5-4, Bloomington North, Circle City

The libero for Circle's 16-1, Avery has been on my radar for years now, and doesn't look to give up the special jersey anytime soon. She leads on the floor defensively and is always in communication with her fellow defenders. With all of the wins this club season and her squad already qualified for GJNCs in Chicago, she'll have a chance to show off on the national stage just how far she's come in just a couple of short years of hard work. She's no longer a "diamond-in-the-rough"; a more apt description would be just "diamond".
