Texas is second to none when it comes to our players earning the right to play at the next level. The offers for our wonderful Texas players keep coming. We love to see the pictures and news of these players as they are achieving their dreams. We are proud to announce some news from the recruiting front. There are three more players who have just committed to college volleyball programs recently and we would like to share the news. These young ladies have been hard at work during the club and high school volleyball season. They also have been hard at work on the recruiting scene getting offers from schools and have made their college decisions. Help us in congratulating them on the amazing news.
Katrina Tran [2023] 5-5 Setter (HS: Liberty/Club: Houston Stellar/Verbal: Panola College)
Katrina is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays volleyball at Liberty High School and also plays club for Houston Stellar. Miss Tran has been a solid distributor of the volleyball for a very long time and you can see her years of experience when you watch her move on the court. She has a very great court sense and she also uses amazing vision to track down passes from her teammates. Very rarely is she out of position at the point of contact and she has her fast footwork to thank for that. The volleyball comes out of her hands so smoothly when she backsets during an out of system play. I love how she is able to push the ball against the flow of the pass. Despite her small frame, she has tons of strength and can add some serious distance in her sets from anywhere on the court. We are proud to announce that she has decided to play college volleyball at Panola College. Please help us congratulate her on achieving her dream of playing at the next level.
Makayla Johnson Makayla Johnson 5'2" | DS/L Aubrey | 2023 TX [2023] 5-2 Libero (HS: Aubrey/Club: Madfrog ‘ last=”]/Verbal: University of North Texas)
Kayla is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays volleyball at Aubrey High School and club for Madfrog ‘ last=”]. While a lot of people might underestimate her because of her size, she will make them pay for sure. This young lady is elite and can cover a lot of ground very quickly. Her range is enormous due to super quick feet and how she reads the court. She sets up in the perfect position to make a play on the ball with awesome anticipation skills. She uses every ounce and inch of her body to keep the ball off of the ground for her team. There is nothing that she wouldn’t give her team in order to compete at the highest level possible. Her first step to the ball is super fast, but what sets her apart from most players is how electric her shuffle step is to get set up for the ball. It is the one aspect that I think will keep her head and shoulders above anyone she competes with in her position. Younger players who are looking to emulate their game around someone should definitely watch her game film and check out how disciplined she is with her posture on defense. It is top notch. We are proud to announce that she recently committed to playing volleyball at the University of North Texas. Please help us congratulate her on achieving her dream of playing college volleyball.
Sameena Burns Sameena Burns 6'2" | MB Seven Lakes | 2024 State TX [2024] 6-2 Middle (HS: Seven Lakes/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Sam Houston University)
Sameena is currently ranked as the 33rd best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays volleyball at Seven Lakes High School and club for Houston Skyline. Miss Burns has doubled her kill total from her sophomore season to her junior season. We are super excited to see what she will do in her senior season next year. Her versatility has been on full display as she has been able to play middle, left side and right side. Not many are able to switch positions and still operate at a high level, but Sameena has done this. For high school she has mainly swung on the pins last year and she was one of the kill leaders for them. During the club season she has dabbled in both middle and right side. Any college coach would love to have a player who is able to give them that many options in their lineup. She has an electric right arm that can deliver kills in a hurry and she is top notch at battling at the net. We are proud to announce that she has committed to playing volleyball at Sam Houston State University. Please help us congratulate her on realizing her dream of playing at the next level.
