Guilherme Torres | Prep Dig Scout
Burns delivered the two main things any coach would want from a right side hitter – production and consistency. The senior was very effective offensively, scoring at a very high rate from the right and the left, and remained as a viable scoring option from start to finish. She also came up big at the end of set one, truly the only moment in the match where Austin were able to challenge Seven Lakes, getting consecutive swings and an ace. Burns also did a very good job with her blocking, getting stuffs, forcing the Bulldogs to swing again and also getting touches that helped the defenders behind her.

Playing a third different position for the Spartans in three seasons, Burns was excellent on the right for Seven Lakes. Very tall and powerful, she started the match on fire and was very difficult to stop offensively. She scored at a very good rate from the right, the back and the left and carried the team’s offense during most of the match. Burns also got some blocks early on and ended the match with 17 kills, four blocks and one ace. She also had an active role in the team’s serve-receive, registering 19 passes. Her game dropped a bit in the tie-breaker and she was even subbed off for a few points, but it was an overall great performance from the senior.

Burns is another middle turned into right side who has been finding great success in her new position. She’ll be with Houston Skyline 17 Royal in the 17 Open division and it will be a great opportunity to see how she performs against elite competition. After playing middle, Burns was a pin hitter for Seven Lakes in the last high school season and was one of the team’s most important players. Her transition to the right has been very smooth as there she can continue to develop her offense while also making a big impact with her strong blocking.

Another very physical prospect, Burns is back at her original middle blocker position after spending the last high school season playing as an outside hitter for her high school team Seven Lakes. The experience has helped Burns develop other areas of her game, such as her court vision and her ball control, and I’m really looking forward to see how that will impact her play in the middle. She has always been a dynamic player, who’s capable of making an impact on the game on both sides of the ball. Her blocking is among the best in her age group as Burns uses her long arms really well to press opposing hitters and has very good reading. Offensively, she can hit a lot of different sets and has added more tools to her arsenal after carrying Seven Lakes’ offense.

The middle-turned-into-outside hitter had a great offensive performance. Burns sided out at a very good rate, tallying 17 kills, and scored points in difficult sets and important moments of every set. She displayed excellent resources too, scoring off of tips and a beautiful jumbo shot on set one. Her confidence level has grown a lot since the start of the season as she got more used to her new role with the Spartans.

Burns has been playing as an outside hitter since the start of the season and every time I’ve watched her play, she feels more comfortable in her new position. Her offensive game improved both in terms of consistency and efficiency and, if some weeks ago she’d only use her power and length to overcome blockers, now she’s more versatile, also putting the ball down with tips and roll shots. Like her entire team, Burns started a little slow, but found her rhythm on set two and remained strong until the end, tallying a match-high 18 kills.

Originally a middle blocker, Burns is playing as an outside hitter this season for Seven Lakes. The new position has made her more available on offense, where her length and firepower can make more of a difference for the Spartans. Burns is still adjusting to the new role and hasn’t been contributing much on the backcourt, but her presence at the net and her technical and big block remain as assets for the team.

Since she switched from the middle to outside hitter this season, Burns has had one major role with the Spartans – to side out. She played a great offensive match against Jordan, scoring at a really high rate from the left and the right and showed great volleyball IQ to go from hard-driven hits to tips and roll shots. Burns, who had ten kills and a very good 45.4% kill percentage, was particularly important at end of set four, when she scored back-to-back plays and stopped what could be a late push from Jordan. She also did well with her blocking, registering two stuffs.
