The 2024 setter class from Washington has several excellent prospects may have been underappreciated, but have caught our eye this club season. Prep Dig will continue to preview and cover the two championships throughout June and into July.
York quarterbacked her Club South squad to a solid season, and she topped it off by earning a spot on the Evergreen Region All-Star team headed to Ft. Lauderdale in July. York has great footwork and tempo as a setter and showed her power and versatility taking swings last year for an excellent Colfax team. Expect York to lead Colfax back to a high state finish again this fall.
Another setter who will be headed to Ft. Lauderdale in July, Burchak will be playing for the 17U Puget Sound Region All-Star team. A team Captain at Shorecrest, she will be with her SNVF 17 White team at the USAV Championships in Chicago as well. Burchak is another setter who racks up kills as well as assists, the lefty has good length and the ability to score as an opposite or while setting in a 5-1. She led her Shorecrest team in nearly every statistical category last season.
Semprimoznik will be setting for the CPA Drew 17 team in the Open Division at AAU Nationals this week. The hard-serving rising senior from Freeman High School has shown off an improved defensive game and her willingness to throw the ball pin to pin to find a great match up. Semprimoznik has an infectious personality and is always the first one to celebrate a great play!
Highlights
Cai is one half of a dynamic pair of setters for NPJ Seattle 17 National. She has continued to be rock steady for an NPJ squad that has improved all season and just finished with a strong second-place finish in the 18 Open Division at Emerald City. Cai uses her feet to make sure she is gathered and has a strong base to set her attackers on time and with accuracy. She moves under control and can calmly deliver a solid set even when she is pushed tight to the net.
Running the show for the Dakine 17 Surf team, Ward is a scrappy defender who never forgets to play defense first. When she is delivering to her attackers it’s accurate, and in the case of some sets, zero tempo. When she runs that tempo to her high-powered middles, it’s very difficult for anyone to keep the ball off the floor. Ward will help lead Dakine into USAV Nationals, her squad will be competing in the 17 National Division.
