For the second straight day, I scouted the Andover Central volleyball camp. At the June 7 practice, I focused on members of the sophomore and freshman classes. The Jaguars only have five seniors so multiple underclassmen could see varsity playing time during the 2023 season.

More than 25 players in the Classes of 2026 and 2027 competed in the practice. It's tough age to scout because so much can change in two or three years, growth spurts, priority changes, and long jams at positions could impact their playing time.

It was a real treat to watch their energy and to observe how they reacted to learning new skills on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='731813' first='Sydney' last='Mayginnes'], 5'9”, MB, ‘26

Mayginnes had a better workout on the first day of camp than the second. She is able to get up and be a real threat in the blocking game. She had a couple of impressive blocks that I noticed. She is very coachable and has quick feet. The junior middle is all arms and legs and needs to improve her body strength to fully benefit from those physical blessings. She projects as a front-row-only player right now but has two more high school and club seasons to evolve

[player_tooltip player_id='591773' first='Madison' last='Boline'], 5'6, DS, ‘26

Boline makes a consistent first pass and plays with a good base. Central is deep at the libero position so varsity time for her might be limited in 2023. However, she has a nice serve and lots of volleyball ahead of her.

Ava Boleski, 5'5”, DS, ‘26

Boleski flat-out hustles. She is the kind of player who shows up ready to play and will focus on her role with the club. She has an athletic frame and makes solid passes. Boleski is not afraid to use her kneepads and is an enjoyable player to watch.

Maddie Jacobs, 5'6”, MB, ‘26

Jacobs like Mayginnes is so young that is difficult to project her future, but she has a big reach and would benefit from increasing her upper body strength as well. She is sneaky quick, has a solid serve, and communicates well on the court.

Avery Unruh, 5'6”, S/OH, ‘27

The Jaguars had a large contingent of freshmen attend the camp. I was most impressed with Avery Unruh from that group. She has an athletic frame and the skill set to play just about every position. She can jump, set, pass, and play defense. She looks like a future six-rotation player in the making as she gains experience and confidence.
