One day at a time, onto day 2!
Session 2 of the 2023 AAU National Championships are underway. If you thought day one was fun, day two served up a real treat with the competition getting more and more fierce. This is one fun field of athletes to hop court to court with. The stars of tomorrow, lighting it up today, we have some big time standouts.
Let’s take a look at the movers and shakers of Day two of AAU Nationals in the 15 Open Division.
Brooklyn Myer – 6’0 S – Austin Performance
This team is going to be a dangerous one to see deep in the tournament. With a quarterback like Myer, she shows off a lot more than the obvious weapon across the net. With a real diverse offense and a nice touch on the block, Myer made huge impact throughout day 2.
Bre Morgan Bre Morgan 5'11" | MB Hamilton Southeastern | 2026 State IN – 6’0 MB – Boiler Juniors
Try beating out this player in the middle and you’ll be awfully mistaken. Morgan plays the game fast and very smooth. For as young as she is, Morgan possesses a really strong sense of the net. She can take care business anywhere along tap with ease. Her blocking was on point and her attacking was top tier.
Quinn Yenshaw Quinn Yenshaw 6'0" | OH Traverse City St. Francis | 2026 State MI – 5’9 OPP – FaR Out
I think this player often times has fallen under the radar with this group, but Yenshaw is having a phenomenal 2023 Nationals. Every time I step around her court, Yenshaw seemingly has the midas touch. Her vision for the court and ability to use even the biggest of blockers to her advantage was impressive.
Riley Pilat Riley Pilat 5'11" | OH Plymouth Christian | 2026 State MI – 5’11 OH/MB – Michigan Elite
Find her in the middle. Find her on the outside. Of find her playing six rotations, even! Whatever you see her doing, Pilat was crushing it on Day 2. Her versatility offers this team a lot of options, Pilat moves well across the net and can do some damage on a tempo ball and out of system just as effectively.
Camden Rahn – 6’1 OPP – OTVA
Another offensive go-to on this OTVA squad, the combination of Lopez and Rahn is killer! Rahn is a 6 rotation opposite hitter with just about all of the tools to be a terror on the attack. At the net or running the D ball, Rahn knows how to find open space and score.
Gigi Artiles – 6’2 OH – Tribe
Easily one of my new favorite players in this class, Artiles knows how to make a statement and then some. This player is playing at a level well beyond the rest of the field. Her entire game is so clean and polished and she gives it an extra oomf with her insane angles when attacking the ball.
Ashlyn Cobb – 6’0 OH – Tribe
If you thought you were getting a break when Artiles rotates out of the front row, you’re sadly mistaken. Incomes Cobb and you’re in just as much of a world of hurt than you were before. This Tribe squad is stacked top to bottom with some insane hitters and Cobb was proving to be top dog on Day 2.
Sophia Stallworth Sophia Stallworth 6'0" | OH William R Boone | 2026 FL – 6’1 MB – Winter Park
Oh man was this middle FUN to watch! Stallworth is thunder in a bottle. There’s seemingly nothing that she cannot do. On a fast ball in front of the setter, run her behind on the slide, or throw up a high ball to her on the pin in side out. This girl knows how to score. Stallworth plays with a lot of passion and character, making her game even more fun to watch.
Elle Mattola – 5’11 S – Winter Park
If I was a setter, I would be beyond jealous of Mattola with all of the weapons she had at her disposal. Mattola really runs the show here though. She has a great touch on the ball and moves it around so well. Leaving opponents 2 no answers to her Winter Park squad.
Jessica Smallwood Jessica Smallwood 6'5" | MB Elizabethtown | 2026 KY – 6’5 OH – EVA
Something is in the water with these 15s because they are HUGE! Smallwood, at 6’5, is an absolute terror offensively. May it be at the net or through the back court, all your need to do is throw it up and let her find it. Smallwood puts balls away with ease.
