In our final edition of the first week of summer league, we have three teams that I know very little about. It almost seems appropriate that these three squads will be pitted against each other on the first day, and all on the same court. Here they are, with possible returnees and what they bring to the table.

The Golden Eagles lose a ton of senior leadership and talent to graduation. What's left is a collection of kids that, when motivated, can definitely make things interesting for the teams on their schedule. Losing to the eventual 3A runner-up to end their season makes it tough on Guerin, but what they return should give teams fits moving forward. [player_tooltip player_id='191072' first='Paige' last='Mascari'] will be one of those seniors that will have to lead with at least three kills per set next fall, which is more than her career average. She's also a primary passer, so she'll have to shoulder more in general to keep GC in every point. Hailey Lytle was one of two setters in the 6-2 last season, but can she handle the whole offense on her own? And who else can she set? Look no further than Leah Sheng, the M2 from a year ago that should step right into the M1 spot and be a primary attacker.

Indianapolis Lutheran

There are a couple of "Lutheran" schools around Indiana, so I had to be specific with which Lutheran I was speaking of. Coach Kathy Anderson will once again guide an undersized but well-prepared bunch into the 1A playoffs, led by senior-to-be [player_tooltip player_id='240642' first='Hadleigh' last='Filipovich']. She can put balls away from anywhere and leads by example daily. [player_tooltip player_id='216522' first='Grace' last='King'] is Hadleigh's opposite, and might be leaned upon a bit more offensively now that she's a senior as well. I'm high on libero [player_tooltip player_id='216041' first='Cathryn' last='Erwin'], who should easily don the special jersey for yet another season for the Saints. Her ability to keep her squad in plays will extend not only each point, but hopefully their season beyond the semi state.

Oldenburg Academy

Of the ten teams listed as playing on the 8th, none are more of a guess to me than the Twisters. For a 1A school, they have plenty of size, starting with Rachel Suttmann ('26, 6-0 MB). Her ability to defend should improve from her rookie campaign last season, and she should move directly into the M1 position in the fall. Kate Weber ('24, 5-10 S/RS) has leadership written all over her, and can run a 6-2 as easily as she can put balls away from either pin. Chloe Bohman ('24, 5-10, OH/RS) is a strict pin attacker, and was the lone bright spot on offense in their season-ending loss to Edinburgh back in October.
