Several middles from Washington (and Idaho!) will be there competing with their teams, trying to wrap up the season with a high finish. Here are middles to keep an eye on as the tournament begins.
Durgan is a terrific rising junior from Mead High School. At 6’3 she has the length high level Division 1 schools love to work with, and her ability to set a strong block and terminate have her receiving serious looks from great programs. Offensively she will be leading the middle attack for Renovators 17 Kari at the AAU Championships. The RVC team will; be competing in the 17 Open and features players from the 16, 17 and 18 RVC regular season squads.
The athletic Michelbook may have been under the radar coming onto the year, but she has been noticed by opposing attackers while playing for a very successful CPA 17 Drew team. Michelbook is extremely quick off the floor and has great hang time, that combination has delivered monster blocks in critical situations all season long. The rising senior out of Ferris High School will be pushing hard with her CPA teammates in the 17 Open this week.

McCartney is a towering presence in the middle for WVBA 17 Adidas. The 2025 from Eastlake High has been developing all season, and her eye work when reading the opposing players and offensive transitions are looking more than solid. McCartney has a developing arm swing, when she trusts it and let it rip she can pound down an overpass or quick offensive set.

Schneider is another middle who will compete with RVC 17 Kari at AAU’s. Schneider had a great season for the RVC 18 squad, the Freeman Scotties and head coach Kaela Straw will be featuring her attacking out of the middle next season during school ball. Schneider is bouncy on the block and the attack and has been well trained working through the RVC and Freeman programs. Schneider and Ava Durgan Ava Durgan 6’3″ | MB Mead | 2025 State WA are joined by Kya Stanley, a third middle for RCV Kari 17 out of Gonzaga Prep.
Highlights
Flerchinger has turned into a middle who can absolutely demolish a set when she is in the flow. The CPA 17 Drew prospect has committed to the College of Idaho. The future Yote will be on the same campus as sister Chloe, a rising sophomore on the softball team. More than a few defenders have caught a Flerchinger swing with their chest or face this year, CPA Drew setters will look to work that connection this week.

Janke is a hard working, consistent performer who shows up in the big moments for the 208 17 Elite team coached by Debbie Buchannan. She moves well as a blocker pin to pin, and has strong hands that can put a block straight down or create a touch on the hardest swing. Janke has touch when she finds a soft spot in a defense, she can drop in a finesse tip or push a ball to a seam to score. 208 17 Elite will be in the 17 Premier Division, the team with players from Idaho and Washington will be looking for a high finish.
