With a lot of the teams lying just outside other counties and coverage areas, it makes it easy to just focus on the players within the conference as we look ahead to 2023.
Here’s a look at nine returning KLAA talents that should make a big impact this fall.
Hayden Brose, OH Stevenson (2024)
Brose may not have the flashiest game, but she is deceptive and gets the job done. Brose is very consistent in her delivery, able to attack from the net and the back row with the same efficiency. Brose doesn’t dial up the fastball like others, but she can attack sharp angles and uses opposing blocking to her advantage.
Erin Cahill, L/DS Stevenson (2024)
Cahill can be unassuming on the floor, because she blends in well with the team, but she quietly goes about her business coming through with dig after dig. Cahill stays low to the ground and remains squared up to her hitters to keep a lot of rallys going. Cahill always looks composed and comfortable on the floor.
Ella Craggs Ella Craggs 5'9" | S Northville | 2025 State #127 Nation MI , S Northville (2025)
Craggs made the move from Mercy to Northville in 2022 and it helped propel the Mustangs to the Division 1 championship match. Craggs approached 1,200 assists while also leading Northville to hitting nearly .300 as a team. Craggs also has an underrated blocking game, which helps take her to another level as a prospect.
Isabelle Earley Isabelle Earley 6'0" | MB Novi | 2025 State MI , MB Novi (2025)
Easley is a middle that will have to step up in a big way for the Wildcats, who graduated a great deal of production from its 2022 squad. That shouldn’t be a problem for Earley, who shows a high level of court awareness to go along with graceful technique at the net. Earley has a long reach and is light off the floor to generate a lot of power, but also provide a lot of offspeed options.
Lea Gage Lea Gage 5'10" | S Brighton | 2024 State MI , S/OH Brighton (2024)
Gage does a little bit of everything for Brighton and her impact is crucial for the team. Gage is a great all-around athlete that has the size and speed to make every play on the floor. She’s got a nice touch on her sets and can make challenging sets in a long rally. Gage can deliver a power shot or offspeed swing from the net. She can block, serve and pass as well.
Cameron Herman Cameron Herman 5'11" | OH Hartland | 2024 State MI , OH Hartland (2024)
Herman has been one of the key hitters for Hartland for years and she will step into her senior year as one of the most consistent finishers at the net in this league. Herman has the size and athleticism to go toe-to-toe with other top hitters in the state. She’s also been putting in a lot of work to improve on her defensive play.
Greta McKee Greta McKee 5'5" | DS/L Northville | 2024 State MI , L/DS Northville (2024)
McKee is one of the many defensive pieces Northville has been able to develop in the program. She’s fiercely focused and has the instincts to get to a lot of difficult attacks. McKee has been up against the best hitters in the state routinely, and managed to make some very impressive digs along the way.
Avry Nelson Avry Nelson 6'3" | MB Northville | 2024 State MI , MB Northville (2024)
Nelson was a huge piece to the Northville offense last year, collecting nearly 250 kills while hitting over .300 on the season. The 6’2” middle also was a major impact on the block with 100 on the season. A very athletic and quick middle, Nelson is going to be a major force in 2023. She can elevate above the blockers and take on a big workload.
Natalie West, S Stevenson (2025)
West did a great job of spreading the ball around the Stevenson offense last season to lead the team to a division title. West communicates well on the floor and is able to bring a lot out of a variety of hitters. She keeps the defense guessing and consistently places the ball in a spot where her hitters can challenge the defense.
