Deep Diggers: Class 2A Defensive Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As I continue to feature athletes from Class 2A schools it is time to feature the workhorse defenders across the state competing for the 2A State title.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is a report on six players who led their teams in digs during their junior seasons.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='119700' first='Grace' last='Hett']</strong>, 5'5”, L, Marion</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I watched Hett play club ball last spring with Shockwave. She finished her junior season with 547 digs. She has played varsity since her freshman year and has a career total of 1,544 digs. She has committed to playing volleyball at Wichita State University.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Carlie Martin</strong>, 5'6”, OH, Meade</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Martin is a solid two-way hitter for Meade who knows how to fill up a stat sheet. She finished her junior season with 413 digs to go along with 252 kills. She can jump and plays with a quiet frame on defense. She also had 347 serve receptions and 14 total blocks during the 2022 season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Hope Garland</strong>, 5'3”, L, St. Mary's</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Garland is a spunky defensive-minded player for St. Mary's. She finished her junior season with 403 digs and 611 serve receptions. She communicates well with her teammates and makes consistent first passes. She is a three-sport athlete who plays basketball and competes in track and field.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Tambryn Watson</strong>, 5'5”, S, Bennington</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Watson is a solid all-around athlete who can play six rotations. She finished with 369 digs in 2022. She also added 713 assists, 46 kills, and 13 total blocks to her junior stat line. Her tip game is solid and she sparks the Bullpups squad. Watson also is a shooting guard for Bennington's basketball squad.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='495603' first='Tori' last='Brown']</strong>, 5”3”, L, Maranatha Christian Academy</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brown plays with high energy on the court. She finished her junior season with 358 digs and has 857 career digs. She also racked up 566 serve receptions. She has an accurate serve accounting for 66 aces during her junior campaign.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Logan Stucky</strong>, 5'5”, DS, Sedgwick</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Stucky is a winner, who helped guide Sedgwick to a 38-1 record during the 2022 season. She has 615 career digs for Sedgwick. She also has a strong serve accounting for 183 career aces as she heads into her senior season with the Cardinals. Stucky is a multi-sport competitor for the Cardinals also playing volleyball and competing in track and field.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
