The talent in the gym was next level, and I have pages of notes on the athletes that stepped into the gym. More than the talent was the energy and leadership that impressed me. Here are some of the emerging stars from the Illinois Stock Up Showcase.
Cheyenne is a powerhouse and physical pin who is an unsigned prospect in the class of 2024. She can swing through massive blocks and makes great decisions on offense. Cheyenne is talented in all six rotations but excels in the front row. Her court vision and use of shots and tooling the block means she is an offensive weapon who adds value on every court she steps on.
Lauren is a dynamic athlete in the class of 2024 that could add a lot of value at the collegiate level. She has a massive vertical and is incredibly athletic. She can set and swing. As a setter, she is super smart and efficient. Lauren also is an offensive weapon and was dominant running a 2 out of the middle.
Highlights
Alena is a clean and disciplined libero who is a talented athlete and leader on the court. She had beautiful passes and clean form. What set her apart was her ability to run the court. She was always talking and knew where everyone needed to be. Alena never missed a beat on the court and is a valuable athlete in her class.
Cara was solid throughout the showcase but really stood out in transition and scrimmage play. She has soft hands and clean sets. Cara ran the court well and spread her offense. She impressed me when she set against the grain and utilized every hitter on the court.
Highlights
Uma is a physical middle who has a huge presence on the court. She puts up a massive block and is explosive across the net. Uma was one of the most powerful middle hitters at the showcase and is an athlete that has a lot of potential.
Highlights
Gabriella is a high-level middle who is athletic and physical. She can paint the back corners with her swings and mixes up her shots incredibly well. She was a powerhouse middle with a huge block and even bigger potential. She is a very talented athlete in her class.
Sophia is a powerhouse pin who exploded onto my radar earlier this club season. She impressed me at nationals and then again at the showcase. Sophia plays incredible offense and defense on the right side though she could play on either pin and even six rotations. She can terminate against massive blocks and puts up a nearly impenetrable block herself.
Highlights
Jaelyn is an impressive setter with a lot of spark on the court. She is competitive and brings a lot of intensity. Jaelyn isn’t afraid to jump set even when on the move and keeps every hitter involved. She has a big vertical and can swing as well. She hopped in the middle for a few rotations and never missed a beat. Jaelyn is the type of athlete who leads by example and is an energizer on the court.
Jayda is a pin hitter who has a huge vertical and big snap on the ball. She is explosive and was impressive from the first play to the last. Jayda continued to catch my eye throughout the showcase. She can swing out of the front and back row and is a talented passer as well.
