Continue ReadingUSA Jr Nationals, were be held in Chicago a few weeks ago and we were lucky enough to watch in person. Nationals is the ultimate test to the end of the season as it brings together all of the teams who have earned a bid to participate. These wonderful teams have proven themselves through a very long and grueling club season and will compete against other top notch teams who have earned the right to play in this prestigious tourney. We will be highlighting teams and individual players that showed up and showed out! Let’s take a look at a few teams and players.
SCVC 17Roxy will be competed in the Open Division of USA Jr Nationals. They are from the Southern California Region and only lost one match during the whole tourney en-route to winning the National Championship. They had a very tough road and played their best when it truly mattered against the best of the best. Here are just a few of the names to know from their talented squad who played very well when I watched them in person.
Althea Morris Althea Morris 5'9" | S Campbell Hall | 2024 State CA [2024] 5-9 Setter (HS: Campbell Hall/Club: SCVC/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Althea is currently ranked as the 53rd best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays for Campbell Hall and plays club for the nationally known Southern California Volleyball Club program. Miss Morris was phenomenal playing all the way around in the championship match. This gave her squad so much consistency in the offense in regards to location and pace all across the net. She played big at the net while in the front row and battled against some amazing attackers. More importantly, she was masterful in moving the ball to all of her hitters. One thing I truly loved about her dishing the rock was that she fed her middles well out of serve receive and that kept the defense honest, which helped her pins have a lot of one on ones and splits in the block. She deserves a lot of recognition when it comes to reasons why her team won the national championship. She is ready to compete at the next level.
Kendall Beshear Kendall Beshear 5'11" | OH Palos Verdes | 2024 State CA [2024] 5-11 Outside (HS: Palos Verdes/Club: SCVC/Verbal: Cal Poly)
Kendall is currently ranked as the 34th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Palos Verdes High School and also club for the nationally known Southern California Volleyball Club program. Miss Beshear is verbally committed to California Polytechnic University and will be a game changer for their program when she steps on campus next season. Luckily we have one more year to cover her journey on the volleyball court. She can be easily classified as a “go to” hitter on this squad who has a cannon for an arm. Offensively, she unleashes that cannon at will from all over the court. It is like she is an assassin who loves the art of the kill. Her ability to score from the left side is well known to everyone who knows the age group. She can light it up both line and sharp angle around the block, but truly has great control over the ball to move it wherever she wants to at any time. The swing blocking left six-rotation baller plays the game with a fire that just won’t die. It is infectious to her teammates and anyone else that is watching.
Taylor Deckert Taylor Deckert 5'8" | DS/L Mira Costa | 2025 State CA [2025] 5-8 Libero (HS: Mira Costa/Club: SCVC/Verbal: University of Southern California)
Taylor is currently ranked as the 37th best overall prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Mira Costa High School and also for Southern California Volleyball Club . Miss Deckert is verbally committed to the University of Southern California for both indoor and on the beach. This is amazing and truly shows just how talented she is with her ball control. She has the size and strength to play all the way around in every aspect of the game at a high level. I loved that when I was watching during the championship match, she was playing at such an elite level. She commanded so much respect from the opposing coach by not being the target of serves. This is the ultimate sign of respect as a ball control expert. Defensively she was a beast! She kept her team in the match by not letting anything hit the floor that was near her zone. I love how she can use her hands to dig and pass, which extend her range from the normal range a libero her size can touch.
Other notable players for this star-studded roster are outside Sarah E Hom Sarah E Hom 6'0" | OH South Torrance | 2025 State CA , who was phenomenal playing six rotations and digging everything that came her way. She proved to be a fantastic second option as an attacker for this wonderful squad on their route to a championship. Right Side Chloe Hines played all the way around and was a solid contributor to the team’s success. She was fantastic in the right back zone picking up many defensive balls to keep her team in the rally. Her right arm was also golden sending some thunderous explosions to her opponent. Jade Dudley-Epps Jade Dudley-Epps 6'0" | MB Lakewood | 2024 State CA was a beast in the middle rising up fast and furiously to block everything that came her way. This young lady has a phenomenal vertical and it was on full display in the championship match.
