There were more than 60 prospects on the court during the event held at the Texas Tornados club, coming not only from H-Town, but also from several other cities in the Lone Star State, such as Austin, San Antonio, McAllen and Corpus Christi, and it was a highly competitive, yet very fun atmosphere.
Fellow Prep Dig scout Mallori Howington, myself and the court coaches were paying attention to everything and were pleased to see many prospects standing out with their strong play. We’ll spend the next few days highlighting them and here are some names we’d like to give a shoutout:
Luedeker emerged as one of the most interesting setters in the event with her solid and reliable game. She got to play with a lot of different hitters and connected well with most of them, remaining accurate and consistent during the entire activity. She also displayed very good ball control, which made of her a strong defensive player in the right back position, and did a good job swinging during the match-like drills. Luedeker was always very focused on what was happening on the court and reacted quickly to difficult plays.
Highlights
Randle was among the most ferocious hitters in the showcase. Her offense stood out early, as she was bouncing balls in the warm-up drills, and didn’t slow down during the match-like ones as she continued to dominate the net with her impressive athleticism and very high contact point. Randle proved to be not only a powerful hitter, but also a smart one, hitting around blocks and scoring off of tips and roll shots too. Her blocking is also very strong as she jumps well, uses her hands to put pressure on opposing hitters and is very aggressive. She was also very positive on the court.
Highlights
A left-handed right side hitter, Suttles displayed some interesting offensive skills that helped her side out at a very positive rate during the match-like drills. She’s not the tallest or most physical player, but is very smart with her shot selection and has interesting technical resources that allow her to find creative and efficient solutions to plays. Suttles also displayed very good ball control, getting some good touches on defense and doing a good job when she had to make the second contact.
West displayed great potential for development with some interesting physical tools and an already well-polished offensive game. She’s very long and uses that well offensively, making contact with the ball at a very high point and finding some nice angles in her swings. West made a very strong approach every time she went up to swing, displayed very strong footwork and was capable of hitting several different sets through the middle. Her blocking is also very big and will get better as she continues to evolve mentally.
Aguilar was among the hardest-working backcourt players in the showcase – she even got a bump in her elbow during it, but kept playing. Her defensive work was truly great in every drill and she had great success defending angle from the left-back position in the match-like drills. Her passing was spot-on the entire time and she was among the most efficient servers of the group with her tricky and aggressive floater. Aguilar also displayed a very positive attitude on the court, fighting for every ball and encouraging her teammates.
