Continue ReadingThe Class of 2024 is collecting plenty of commits. These athletes are heading into their senior season and will have big dreams of making it to Xtream this fall. I was able to see some of these athletes live at USAV Nationals in Chicago where Iowa teams fared very well, including a 17 National Division title by Six Pack. This article we’re talking about the commits with future articles talking about who is rising among the recruiting ranks and are still available in the Class of 2024 as well as what seniors will be key in leading their teams to the state tournament this upcoming fall!
Kenzie Dean Kenzie Dean 6'3" | OH Dowling Catholic | 2024 State #145 Nation IA – Dowling – Club Ignit Select
Committed to Kansas
Seeing Kenzie Dean Kenzie Dean 6'3" | OH Dowling Catholic | 2024 State #145 Nation IA at nationals was just different than what I’ve seen out of Dean in previous events. She was hitting a really heavy ball, making things look easy. Her athleticism and physicality is at a different level where she has the shots, but also the pure power to make it tough for the other side of the net to cleanly pass the ball to keep things in system. She is heading to a really deep and new look Big 12 where her KU recruiting class is one of the tops in the conference. She is primed for a big time senior season where her and her Dowling teammates will look to get back to Xtream.
Ava Helming Ava Helming 6'0" | MB Johnston | 2024 State IA – Johnston – PowerPlex
Committed to Valparaiso
I was able to see the opening match for PowerPlex 17 Black where they took on FC Elite out of Appleton, WI who would eventually finish in the gold bracket. Helming went head to head with Ella Demetrician of FC Elite who is a Michigan commit and she was matching her kill for kill. Helming contacts high from the right side, she is a pure scorer, and she is a tough matchup with her block. Valpo got a steal in Helming. The Central Iowa high school scene is going to be really tough this fall and Helming is going to be looking to take her Johnston squad back to the state tournament.
Kinsey Mohwinkle Kinsey Mohwinkle 6'0" | MB Aplington-Parkersburg | 2024 State IA – Aplington-Parkersburg – Six Pack
Committed to St. Cloud State
Mohwinkle is coming on real strong and is continuing the pipeline of Iowa athletes to St. Cloud, MN. They are one of the top D2 programs in the country, winning the Northern Sun Tournament in 2022. Kenzie Foley of Sergeant Bluff-Luton has been their key All American outside since she stepped foot on campus. Mohwinkle will be heading there as well as Carlie Willis Carlie Willis 6'0" | OH Grundy Center | 2024 State IA (Grundy Center/CIA). What Mohwinkle brings to the court is the physicality at the middle blocker position. She is strong, closes the block, and transitions quickly to become available to attack. She hits a heavy ball and knows how to take it to the deep corner to score easy points.
Maggie Johnson – Davenport Assumption – Iowa Select
Committed to UMSL (Missouri-St. Louis)
UMSL had a huge postseason in 2022 where they won their region and advanced to the D2 Final Four. Hannah Copeland who also played at Iowa Select is a middle blocker at UMSL. Johnson has a really live and active arm where she finds a way to score points. She can attack out of the backrow, go hard cross, or paint the line. She is a really fun athlete who will be looking for one last chance to bring home hardware to Assumption where they won the Class 3A state title in 2022.
Maeve Rehmann Maeve Rehmann 6'2" | MB Johnston | 2024 State IA – Johnston – Club Ignit Select
Committed to Wintrop
Rehman is long, athletic, and has great quickness and agility as a 6’2 middle blocker. She finds a way to close the block and get touches, taking up space, doing her job. She will head to Winthrop which is a D1 school in Rock Hill, South Carolina that competes in the Big South Conference. She has one more year left at Johnston where they have a really powerful front line returning. She will be teaming up with Helming to make sure they finish at the state tournament, similar to how they shook the state as sophomores defeating top seeded Liberty in the quarterfinal round.
