The Houston Open 2023 will reunite 23 of the best programs in the area for two days of competition at the Houston Skyline club, on Friday and Saturday.
Prep Dig will be on-site following the first day of the event and will bring detailed reports and the best photos, but before the tournament starts, let’s get to know some of the most exciting talent that will be in action. These right side hitters can be very productive for their teams:
Henderson will likely be the main scoring option of her team Concordia Lutheran at the tournament. She is very explosive, can score from the right and the left and has great chemistry with setter Anna Blaine Anna Blaine 6’1″ | S Concordia Lutheran | 2024 State TX , with whom she also plays at the club level. Henderson uses her length well and has a heavy arm, but she’s extremely complete offensively, also finding good angles to put the ball down and tooling the block when that’s the best option. She’s always ready to be set and consistently delivers under pressure.

A new addition to Fort Bend Christian Academy this season, Morton is one of the numerous intriguing offensive pieces the team has this season. She uses her length and athleticism very well offensively and is very good with her shot selection, always picking the right option to put the ball down. Morton can also hit quicker or higher sets on the right, adjusting well to what each play offers her. She’s also a solid blocker, placing her long arms well across the net and taking up a lot of space from opposing hitters at the pin.

A freshman with St. John’s this season, Carroll has slotted immediately into the team’s starting lineup and it’s easy to see why. Although her game is still developing, she already has more than enough tools to make an impact on both sides of the ball at the net. Also capable of playing in the middle, she’s a very good blocker, who moves well and reads the game efficiently before going up to make stops. Carroll is also solid offensively, getting off the floor well, making contact with the ball at a very high point and swinging with power.
Jenniya Lane

Another versatile player who can play in the middle or the right, Lane has been playing three rotations for Episcopal, but she manages to make a good impact on the team when she’s on the court. Extremely athletic, she adds power and length to the Knights at the net and gets to contribute offensively and defensively. Lane is really good at hitting the slide set from the right and that’s her go-to play when she’s there. Her blocking is also very productive as she gets off the floor well and uses her long arms to shut opponents down.
