Prep Dig was in attendance on Friday and we got to see some really exciting prospects on the court during the day. We’re taking the next few days to recognize the players who had great performances and these middles were certainly among them:
Vanessa Reed
Vanessa Reed
The 6’2″ Reed provided golden bracket champions Episcopal with a big and efficient presence at the net. She used hed long arms extremely well to shut down opponents and was very difficult to beat at the net when blocking because of her excellent reach and impressive mobility. At certain times, Reed also turned into an offensive weapon for the Knights, connecting well with both setters, hitting different sets down the middle and displaying great resources to put the ball down.
It’s not very common to see middles being the main scoring options for their teams but that’s exaclty what Fledderman was for Bay Area Christian over the weekend. Displaying great connection with her twin sister Brooke, she was set quite often and used her size and power to beat opponents and score at a high volume, on some occasions doing it from the right. Not many opponents were able to match Fledderman at the net and she also made a strong impact with her blocking. The middle had a very strong jump serve too, which at times got opponents out of system.
Highlights
Emma Willingham
Emma Willingham
Willingham looked a little undersized in the middle, but played much taller than her frame for FBCHA and helped the team finish fifth in the golden bracket. Playing with a lot of energy, she battled much taller and more physical blockers in most of the matches and held her own extremely well, making life difficult for them and contributing on both sides of the ball. Willingham used her long arms well and got off the floor very quickly, occasionally coming out of nowhere to get stops. She also had excellent moments offensively and used her all-around game very well at the net.
Oyinkansola Ajimotokan
Oyinkansola Ajimotokan
A state champion with Fort Bend Christian in 2021, Ajimotokan has been with Houston Christian since 2022 and continues to have an evolving role with the team. Although not extremely tall, she’s very physical and makes her presence felt at the middle. Ajimotokan brings a lot of intensity every time she gets on the floor and is capable of contributing on both sides of the ball. Defensively, she times her blockign moves extremely well and is very efficient every time she has to deal with an overpass. Offensively, she can hit different sets at a good rate, offering a viable option to her setters.
Lorelle Henderson
Lorelle Henderson
Henderson was easily the most impressive player in her Northland Christian team, playing a big role for them at the net and on the backcourt. The tallest player on the team, she was the focal point of their offense and responded well, using her reach to beat the blockers and score points. She also did a good job with her blocking, moving well at the net and getting on the way of opposing hitters. A very complete player, Henderson also contributed on the backcourt, having an importnat role in the team’s passing system and also getting some digs. The middle also had some good serving runs, finding good spots and remaining consistent.
