Prep Dig was in attendance on Friday and we got to see some really exciting prospects on the court during the day. We’ll take the next few days to recognize the players who had great performance and we start now with the setters.
Keely Mcneill
Keely Mcneill
Mcneill did a very good job running Rosehill Christian’s offense during the day, remaining efficient with her decisions and accurate with her locations. She has very solid technical skills and can remain precise even when working with passes off the net. The senior setter moves well on the court and is also very active on defense, getting a lot of touches from right back position. Mcneill, who also scored some points herself on setter dumps, played a big role in helping Rosehill Christian win five of their six matches over the weekend and win the silver bracket.
Kara Thomas
Kara Thomas
Golden bracket winners Episcopal could count on Thomas’ efficient game during the weekend and had her leading the team to victory in all six matches they played. She was very intelligent with her ball distribution, sticking to her main hitters in clutch moments but involving the others when the match allowed her to. Thomas also made some big plays on defense, benefiting from her excellent positioning, and had some long serving runs during the day, consistently getting opponents out of system.
Madison Krieger
Madison Krieger
Krieger displayed great connection with her hitters and a very high volleyball IQ while running the offense of Houston Christian. A lefty, she was very creative when moving her hitters around in her offensive schemes and consistently found ways to get them in good position to score. One of the Mustangs’ captains, she played with a lot of energy and frequently pushed her teammates on the court. Her backourt game was also extremely valuable for her team as Krieger served well and played good defense.
Playing a dual setter/hitter role, Fledderman was extremely important to her Bay Area Christian team that finished fourth in the silver bracket. Her playmaking was always excellent, especially when connecting with her twin sister Brenna, and she was great at keeping the team going during matches. Fledderman would turn into a pin hitter when she was at the net and had great success swinging from the left. Despite not being very tall, she has excellent vision and was really efficient offensively, even when set off the net.
Highlights
Lily Miller
Lily Miller
Second Baptist’s main setter, Miller and the team finished third in the silver bracket. A setter with a good combination of size and technical skills, she is excellent at reading the game and adjusting her offensive strategy accordingly and finding ways to facilitate the team’s scoring efforts. Miller is also extremely consistent and produces at the same level from the start to finish in matches.
Carolina Lopez
Carolina Lopez
St. Pius X’s starting setter in the tournament, Lopez did a good job even if her team got just one win in five matches. She’s very clean technically and her excellent ball control allowed her to build the offensive system around the team’s strong middle blocker duo as even when the pass wasn’t ideal, she was ideal able to force plays with them. Also capable of playing as a defensive specialist, Lopez is also very solid on the backcourt and good some important digs.
