Each of the first two teams need to replace at least four starters, including defending champ Wapahani. Here are three teams most likely to make it to Worthen Arena in November, plus one dark horse that could blow up this party.
Wapahani (’22 record: 32-5)
Camryn Wise is at Ball State. Chloe Cook attends NAIA power Marian. Reese Baker? Also a Ball State Cardinal. Macie Bowden signed with D2 Ohio Dominican. That’s four starters from a state championship squad all signed to play ball at the next level. I’m not asking who can replace them, because that group is irreplaceable. What the Raiders can do, however, is reload with more talent. Anna Buck (’25, 5-10 MB/RS) has the experience and the talent to make up some of the offense lost to graduation, but might be the only semblance of size on this roster. Sophia Beeson (’25, 5-8 OH/DS) can be either an up-and-coming attacker, a defender, or a combination of both. Emily Luce (’26, 5-4 DS/L) is a three-sport stud that looks to take over the libero jersey this fall. With all of that leadership, both physical and emotional, gone, here’s to hoping there’s more to the Raiders that just those three that return.
Andrean (’22 record: 29-6)
The Fighting 59ers not only have the best mascot in the state but are always in the conversation for a state title. They also graduated four massive contributors to their ’22 campaign, but have more to fill those gaps than the defending champs. Marin Sanchez Marin Sanchez 5'10" | OH Andrean | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-10 OH) is a mature and talented six-rotation star for this program that has been there seemingly forever. Varya Rahoizia (’24, 5-10 S) is a silky-smooth setter that makes great decisions and is more than capable of running a 5-1 at this level. Caroline Linklater Caroline Linklater 5'6" | OH Andrean | 2025 State IN (’25, 5-6 OH/DS) is a spitfire of an outside that plays fearlessly against bigger blocks and has the talent to fill in at the second outside position. The question remains: do they have enough to make it to Worthen?
Linton-Stockton (’22 record: 28-6)
Unlike the two teams listed above, the great majority of the Miners’ offense comes back for another run at the title. Their runner-up run last fall was epic, and they are definitely set up for success to do it again, albeit a year older and wiser. Sophie Hale Sophie Hale 5'5" | DS/L Linton-Stockton | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-5 OH) is a compact and hard-hitting outside that plays bigger than her frame. Ella Warrick Ella Warrick 5'9" | OH Linton-Stockton | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-9 OH) is the gym rat every team needs to make a long run in the playoffs, and got a ton better during club season at Circle. Becca Robbins (’25, 6-1 MB) is a three-sport athlete that is an intimidating force when she chooses to take over a match. Audrey Warrick Audrey Warrick 6'0" | S Linton-Stockton | 2024 State IN (’24, 6-1 S/RS) should be running a 5-1 this year, with the opportunity to swing whenever she can contribute. Probably the biggest team in 2A going into this fall, is this the year of the Miner?
DARK HORSE: Burris (’22 record: 22-11)
Don’t look at the record. The Owls consistently play one of the toughest schedules in the state, and with their proximity to great ball in Delaware County, they don’t have to go far to do it. They also don’t have to go far to Worthen in November—heck, they’re practically down the block from the state championship location. That being said, this might be the year of the Owl in the northern half of the draw, as Wapahani has lost so much and Burris has retained so much. Lilly Howell Lilly Howell 6'2" | MB Muncie Burris | 2025 State IN (’25, 6-2 MB) is a Munciana-trained middle that might be the best middle in all of 2A. Aubrey Miller Aubrey Miller 5'7" | DS/L Burris | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-6 OH) is a six-rotation ball-control specialist that happens to put balls away on a regular basis. Layla Gonzales Layla Gonzales 5'4" | DS/L Burris | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-4 DS/L) is a Munciana-trained libero—need I say more about her skills? This is a squad that has the tools, the talent and the coaching to get it done. A nice run in October, with a little luck, could get them to Ball State and play the biggest home game of their lives.
