From a statistical standpoint, Hermanson was the best player on the court in this one. She pounded out 16 kills to go with her match-high 30 digs. She added 2.0 blocks. Hermanson benefits from long arms and being athletic. She jumps well, can hang in the air and swings with purpose. She mixes up her hits well based on recognition of the defense. I had heard good things about her, and she did not disappoint in my first live look.

Diederich shined in her first varsity action, leading all performers in this match with an impressive 53 assists. I’ve seen her play for several years. She’s steadily improved over time. Her height and long arms serve her well. She shows soft hands and her sets are crisp.

Secora is a sound complement to Hermanson, giving the Cougars firepower on the right side. It keeps defenses from focusing too much attention on the outside pin. Secora shows explosion offer the floor and a mighty swing. She registered 13 kills in this match with a .250 efficiency.

Johannes, like Secora, delivered 13 kills. She added four digs. Her versatility stands out. She can hit from anywhere along the front but her swing is best suited for the outside. Her long arms and leaping ability aid her in making plays.
Younge provides a strong presence in the middle for the Cougars. She finished with a team-high 5.0 blocks in this contest to go with 10 kills. Her kill efficiency (.261) comes as a result of agility and being ready when her number is called. Her long arms and power also stand out.

Every team enjoys having a player like Phillips on the roster. Versatility allows her to chip in all around the court. In this match, the senior accumulated seven kills to go with six digs. She knows her role, understands where she needs to be and makes the plays presented to her.
Ballard’s 18 digs on this night were second to Hermanson among the Cougars. She positioned herself well and shows impressive lateral quickness. She’s fundamentally sound and can turn around pace into usable passes for her setter. She added a kill and converted all 13 of her serve attempts.
