Continue ReadingThe Texas High School season is well underway and there have been some teams that are separating themselves from the rest of the pack this season. This series will be highlighting a few of them as everyone marches through their district schedule. Let’s take a closer look at who is standing out for these teams on the rise.
Cinco Ranch Cougars
The Cougars of Cinco Ranch have been rolling this season and have played some awesome volleyball as of late. They are currently 22-5 and undefeated in district 19-6A. Junior outside hitter Gabriella Martinez Gabriella Martinez 5'11" | OH Cinco Ranch | 2025 State TX has been averaging double digit kills in each match this year. She is leading the team in kills by a lot and is super efficient with a .240 hitting percentage. Senior Makenna Loo Makenna Loo 6'0" | OH Cinco Ranch | 2024 State TX has been a staple for this offense for the last three years and this year is no different. She is still one of the top kill leaders in the district. Her overall level of play in the back row has this team ready to pounce on any foe in their way. Junior libero Magdalene Finnegan has been amazing leading the Cougars in digs. The play of their great setter Kassidy O’Brien Kassidy O’Brien 5'10" | S Cinco Ranch | 2025 State #19 Nation TX is one of the main reasons why this team is so competitive. She is one of the best setters in the state of Texas. Her ability to do it all on the court from setting to offense to digging in the back row has been elite to say the least. Two players who are new to me but standing out are Ariana Willis and Emily Killam. They are both adding lots of firepower and pace to the team’s offense. Only Tompkins and Seven Lakes should be the main competition for the Cougars, but I firmly believe Cinco should come out in first place this season.
Flower Mound Jaguars
The Jags have been uber competitive for as long as I can remember in the sport of volleyball. This year is no exception. They have a deep roster of ballers who all contribute to the team’s success. Let’s start out with their amazing upperclassmen of attackers who all have great experience to lead this team to greatness. Catherine Young Catherine Young 5'11" | OH Flower Mound | 2024 State #172 Nation TX is an established outside hitter who has exploded this year with 195 kills on a fantastic .273 hitting percentage. One of the most dominant hitters in recent times is senior outside Brianna Watson Brianna Watson 6'1" | OH Flower Mound | 2024 State #53 Nation TX who is second on the team in kills. These two seniors have the leadership necessary to take this team to the next level for a deep playoff run. Junior Audrey Jackson Audrey Jackson 5'11" | OH Flower Mound | 2025 State #125 Nation TX ‘s all around game has been a blessing to this squad. Senior setter Chloe O’Brien is running the show dishing the rock to all of these wonderful hitters. Super Sophomore Allison Tredwell Allison Tredwell 6'1" | S Flower Mound | 2026 TX has come into her own this year and is providing a lot of help in the assist category for the Jags. She has the length and skills to be a threat for the next few years. Senior libero Emerson Dement adds a lot of ball control to this team. Senior Middle Caroline Tredwell Caroline Tredwell 6'2" | MB Flower Mound | 2024 State TX has been fantastic in both blocking and offensively. She is definitely someone for opposing coaches to worry about when she is on the floor. When you look at championship teams, year in and year out, they are mostly comprised of experienced players who know what it takes to win. This senior laden team is one that we should all watch out for in the playoffs.
Randall Raiders
This Amarillo based squad is one to watch for sure. They have some amazing players who deserve a few looks. The Raiders are currently 21-3 on the year and have just started district play. Outside Brooke Henderson is playing very big on the left side and hits the ball with tons of power. Outside Jordyn Gove Jordyn Gove 5'11" | OH Randall | 2024 TX is a wall of a blocker against opposing right sides. She plays very well above the net and seals it away from would-be point scorers. Offensively she can bring the heat when needed as well. Senior libero Kenna Miller has been phenomenal from serve receive delivering great balls to her setter. Junior setter Sidney Soria Sidney Soria 5'9" | S Randall | 2025 TX is dishing the rock like a seasoned veteran who knows exactly where the hitters want the ball. She has been very solid and is always in system. She is also not afraid to battle at the net when she is in the front row. I love the fire that she plays the game with. Right side Kyleigh Turner provides a lot of much needed blocking and offense to this squad. Kandree Perez plays well out of the middle and is the first line of defense for the lady Raiders.
