Continue ReadingThe Texas High School season is well underway and there have been some teams that are separating themselves from the rest of the pack this season. This series will be highlighting a few of them as everyone marches through their district schedule. Let’s take a closer look at who is standing out for these teams on the rise.
Blum Bobcats
The Blum Bobcats have been a staple in the state playoff chase each year and this year is no different. They are currently 25-5 overall and 1-0 in district 18-1A. Blum has a very well-balanced attack in their arsenal. Stud sophomore outside Kinsley Mcpherson has been the main focal point of much of the offensive barrage from the lady Bobcats. Senior Addison Willingham has been a beast defensively at the net and offensively out of the middle. She is scoring at a very high clip and providing a way for the opposing blockers to stay with her and create one on one’s or splits for her pins. Senior middle Emma Scott Emma Scott 6'0" | MB Blum | 2024 TX has also been a tremendous force for this squad. Strong senior leadership will definitely take this team very far in the playoffs. The phenomenal play of senior setter Ruby Rumohr Ruby Rumohr 5'10" | S Blum | 2024 State TX is the main reason of why this team is so special. I have followed her play for a while during the club season and she is the epitome of the word leader. The three sport star also shines on the basketball court and softball diamond. She is capable of scoring herself and she does an amazing job of running her middles early and often. This team is on pace to run through the entire field without much problem once the playoffs start.
Floresville Tigers
In the 4A division, the Floresville Tigers have proven themselves to be a team to watch out for. They have some serious studs who are very hard not to notice. So far during this season, they are sitting at an overall record of 30-2 and a district record of 5-0 in district 29-4A. You cannot talk about this squad without mentioning the golden child Paisley Pavliska Paisley Pavliska 5'10" | OH Floresville | 2026 State TX . She is the chosen one to lead this team to a long and deep playoff run. Her body of work speaks for itself as she has doubled the next leading scorer on the team. Offensively, she is undoubtedly the leader of the team. Her overall game in the back row is another reason why they are so dominant this year. She has some great help in the back row with Junior Giada Obregon Giada Obregon 5'3" | DS/L Floresville | 2025 TX and Senior Gabriella Rodriguez Gabriella Rodriguez 5'5" | DS/L McKinney North | 2026 State TX . They both have been phenomenal with keeping the ball in play and in system for their setter. Super sophomore Maddie Harden is dishing the rock all over the court with extreme precision. I like how she is moving the hitters around with different routes and keeping a solid tempo to stay aggressive. Sophomore middle Makenna Hertless Makenna Hertless 6'0" | MB Floresville | 2026 State TX is having an amazing year offensively. She will be a force to be reckoned with for the next few years. They run her on the pins during serve receive and out of the middle during transition. Right side Sloane Paugh Sloane Paugh 5'10" | RS Floresville | 2025 TX is providing some much needed firepower from the opposite position. This helps spread the offense around and keep the defense from committing to one side. We will be watching this squad closely and you should also.
Rouse Raiders
The Rouse Raiders have been phenomenal since they opened their school. They have some awesome coaches to thank for creating a wonderful program. Currently they are 29-11 overall and a perfect 6-0 in district. They have played a very tough schedule and are battle tested for sure. There are some amazing upperclassmen who have the experience to lead this team to a deep playoff run this year. Junior outside hitter Jade Key is a double-double waiting to happen each night from the left side. This young lady gets up off of the ground with a violent approach and provides a lot of heat with her awesome attack. Senior outside Naara Tanco Naara Tanco 6'1" | MB Rouse | 2024 TX has also averaged double digit kills each match. She truly understands how to score efficiently from all over the court. They are able to run her in the front row and back row when they get into trouble. Senior middle Jadyn Wilgus Jadyn Wilgus 6'2" | MB Rouse | 2024 State TX is one of the best middles in her grad class and it is showing as she is third on the team in kills and has been a monster at the net while blocking. The captain of all captains is senior setter Savannah Skopal Savannah Skopal 6'0" | S Rouse | 2024 State #39 Nation TX . She is listed as the best setter in her grad class in the entire state of Texas and every word that is said about her play and as a person is completely warranted. She is special and shows every night why. Junior libero Mary Schirpik Mary Schirpik 5'5" | DS/L Rouse | 2025 State TX is leading the team in digs and provides some awesome ball control out of serve receive to keep the team in system. This team will be a tough out for anyone in their way to the playoff race.
