Let’s look at some players that stood out:
Meester has long dominated at the net. Tuesday she showed off her development as a six-rotation performer. It’s going well. Prep Dig’s top ’25 player in the state, Meester led the Mustangs in kills (19) and digs (16) in this match with a .441 hitting efficiency. The Louisville commitment dominates at this level with her broad skill set that continues evolving. She’s becoming stronger, more agile and a smarter player with time. The ceiling is incredibly high here.
Another of the state’s top players in a loaded ’25 Class, Erwin, like Meester, is developing as a six-rotation player. She even found herself setting at times with starting setter Lauryn Wear sidelined with an injury. Erwin is an explosive athlete with stand-out leaping ability and power in her swing. She plays more fluidly and confidently than a year ago and should be firmly on college recruiters’ radars.
The Cedar Rapids Xavier transfer has hit the ground running in Mount Vernon. Huber is as technically sound a setter as you’ll find in the state. She smoothly and efficiently gets into proper position. Once there, she delivers the ball with a soft touch and accuracy. Her height and long arms make her a threat defensively at the net. She produced 37 assists in this match, pushing her total to 188 on the season.
Ellyson is a fun player to watch play the game. She brings energy and excitement to the court. She couples that with a strong set of skills. Her best spot is probably on the outside, where she explodes off the floor, rises up and swings with power way beyond her height. Her 11 kills ranked second to Meester among Mustangs in this match. The senior also contributed nine digs, showing she’s valuable at all spots.
Like the previous Class of ’25 members listed in this report, Sell looks much more comfortable and confident as a junior than she did as a sophomore last season. And she’s always been pretty confident. Along with that growth, she’s developing nicely as a player. She lined up in the middle last year, showing her aptitude for that. This season, she’s excelling on the outside. She also holds up well in the back row. She paced the Spartans with 13 kills in this match.
Hey, would you look at that, another standout in the ’25 Class. Rolland is rock-solid and a steadying force from the libero position. She’s got cat-quick reflexes and moves well laterally. She gets a good read off of the opponent on serve-receive and turns around pace into usable passes. She produced 12 digs in this match and leads the Mustangs with 64 this season.
Lahr reminded everybody here on Tuesday not to sleep on the state’s ’26 Class. The sophomore is a really good athlete who’s developing as a volleyball player. She contributed four kills and three blocks in this match. She plays with good focus, confidence and energy. She shows excellent timing in the middle and reads the opponent’s movements well, putting her in position to defend or hit all along the net.
