Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

The high school volleyball years create wonderful life memories for everyone involved. Connections are strong.

That thought was the impetus behind developing these scouting-report/photo pieces a few seasons ago to act as yearbook pages. I've written as many of them as I could based on watching teams play in person. Hopefully, they capture that squad in words and pictures, and can be accessed years down the road.

Today, we look at Ankeny Centennial, who I watched play at the Iowa City High tournament in early September. The Jaguars ran the table in the round-robin event with a 5-0 record with wins against the host, Bettendorf and Regina.

Centennial lost a lot of production to graduation after last season's run to the Class 5A state title match, including three starters that earned college scholarships. The cupboard was not left bare, however, as evidenced by the Jaguars' fast start in 2026.

Here's a closer look at student-athletes standing out followed by photos of Centennial:

Snyder is a student-athlete I've had the pleasure to watch develop her game during the last few seasons, fighting through injuries at times, and continuing to improve all of her skills. The Oklahoma Christian commitment was performing at a high level during my most recent in-person scouting opportunity at the Iowa City High tournament at the beginning of the 2026 season. Snyder was standing out through six rotations as the Jaguars won the event with a 5-0 record. She's added power in her swing and become more efficient in reading blocks, understanding when to hit through, around or off of them. Snyder has come a long way in defending at the net and in the back row. She's sound in serve-receive.

Heither enjoyed a coming out party, of sorts, during Centennial's march to the Class 5A state championship match last season. She proved to be among the best two-way middles in Iowa. Not resting on her laurels, Heither took another step forward when watching her compete in club earlier this year. More progress had been made when scouting her at the Iowa City High tournament early in the 2026 campaign. The Jaguars needed more out of her this year after graduation losses, and the senior was bringing it in leading them to the title in this event with a 5-0 mark. Heither stands out for her power. She can muscle her way through a lot of blocks and has gotten better at finding hitting lanes around them. Her block has continued to become more impactful with sharp timing and burst off of the court.

VanBruggen escaped my eye while playing for Premier Nebraska as my focus is on Iowa club teams. She also played with the [program_tooltip program_id='428934' first='Centennial' last='Volleyball Academy'] this summer, when she was recognized for her play at the USAV Nationals. The Centennial freshman certainly had my attention at the Iowa City High tournament early in the 2026 season, easily the breakout prospect in the event for me. VanBruggen is every bit of the 6-feet tall at which she's listed and brings advanced strength for her age. It leads to a bunch of power in the swing, which would have you believing she's an upperclassman if you didn't know better. There's impressive explosion off of the court and a serious vertical leap. Long arms and timing aid her on the block. VanBruggen was leading the Jaguars with 82 kills (.259) through their first 31 sets. It's early, but she's clearly among the best 2030s in Iowa.

Centennial was faced with the task of replacing a Division I libero after its run to the 2025 Class 5A state championship match. No problem. Enter Rinehart, who committed to South Dakota this summer before taking over at the position for the Jaguars. Her play when scouting her during the club campaign certainly provided enough evidence that the position at Centennial was in good hands. That clearly was the case when scouting her at the Iowa City High tournament early in the season, when the Jaguars won the event with a 5-0 record. Rinehart is a good athlete that moves quickly and fluidly around the court. She covers a ton of ground in defending the back row. Rinehart reads the serve well and thrives in receiving it. She is adept at getting a dangerous attack started in transition.

Ankeny Centennial's [player_tooltip player_id='490002' first='Emma' last='Vanden Hull'].
