Senior Setting Stat Leaders In 2023

Experience and maturity go a long way in leading a team, and senior setters provide both of those traits.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here's a look at 10 senior setters that are quickly tallying up assist numbers while showing their leadership skills as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>*Stats were provided through MaxPreps</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Annalise Weeder, Croswell-Lexington</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Pioneers are piling up wins this season and it's a lot to due with the offensive play of the team. Collectively hitting around .230, Weeder is the senior setter making it all run. A fourth-year varsity player, Weeder sits at 611 assists on the season through 70 sets. She's right on the brink of 3,000 assists for her career.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='110302' first='Adrienne' last='Greschaw'], North Branch</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Greschaw has been blessed to play with a talented class of seniors around her, but she's also bringing out the best in the defending D2 champs. The Broncos are hitting nearly .300 as a team and Greschaw has played as well as you'd expect. She's at 581 assists for the season, while sitting just one assist shy of an impressive milestone – 4,000 career assists. Only 12 other players in MHSAA history have gotten to that exclusive mark.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sophia Payne, Dakota</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Dakota has been up against a lot of the top teams this year and while it has led to some losses, the Cougars look to be a stronger team for it right now. Payne is settling into her role as the setter, now up to 505 assists through 66 sets. She's coming off her best performance yet, with 46 assists in a four-set win over Anchor Bay.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='172202' first='Kaitlyn' last='Schram'], Hartland</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Eagles are holding their own in one of the stronger leagues in the state, the KLAA. Hartland is hitting about .210 on the season with Schram putting up 463 assists on the season. Her average of 8.3 assists per set is well above her average from a season ago, as she's got a real strong feel for the offense this season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Payton Hutchinson, St. Johns</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>St. Johns is rolling right now in the CAAC and Hutchinson has he Red Wing offense clicking. She's got good chemistry with her top hitters and knows when to call her own number. Hutchinson has 462 assists this season. In recent league wins, Hutchinson has been able to notch some of her highest assist totals of the season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='110335' first='Avery' last='Woodard'], Marysville</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Woodard has been doing her part to keep Marysville in the MAC Red race this season. She's got Marysville hitting over .200 as a team, putting up 417 assists through 43 sets of play. In a recent outing with Anchor Bay, Woodard put up a season-high 43 assists over four sets to lead her team to a big victory.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='172199' first='Sophie' last='Crawford'], Gull Lake</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gull Lake is coming off one of its biggest wins of the season, a four-set victory over Portage Northern on Wednesday. Crawford is such a vital piece to the offense, not just with her 412 assists, but with her 117 kills as well. She's over 2,250 assists in her career and seems to bring another level to her game with each big matchup.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Caroline Cubitt, Troy Athens</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Troy Athens is making a strong push for the OAA White title in 2023 and Cubitt is a key senior leader working with some younger hitters this year. She's just shy of 400 assists on the year, sitting with 398 right now through 57 sets. Recently, she dialed up a 41-assist performance in a four-set win over Berkley.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Reeghan Griffith, Dansville</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Dansville has been doing a nice job of holding its own in the CMAC, which is led by a very strong P-W program. Griffith is running a smooth offense and balancing out the swings between a pair of powerful senior arms. She's got 394 assists on the season, with her play in league games really shining. Griffith recorded 38 assists in a win over Fowler and 30 in a win over Saranac.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Maddie Dalton, Stockbridge</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Panthers have to be happy with their season thus far, with their wins more than doubling up the losses. Dalton has recorded 357 assists on the season for Stockbridge. She's really flipped another gear in recent outings, going over 20 in three of her last four matches. That includes 24 against East Jackson and 25 against Reading, a pair of victories.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
