Here are our top five this week, with records in place as of the matches on 9/27 and two attackers that will both need to terminate for a deep run in October.
#5: Lafayette Central Catholic (18-6)
The strength of schedule is still there, but the Knights slip a little due to their loss to Wes-Del over the weekend. No matter, as this is a subjective list and the loss has no bearing on where LCC will be placed in the postseason. A pair of outsides run this squad, starting with Carley Barrett (’25, 5-7 OH). Between she and freshman phenom Lauran Johnson (’27, 5-7 OH), the outside hitting is taken care of for the Knights.
#4: Wes-Del (20-4)
With that aforementioned win over LCC, the Warriors make their first appearance in the top five for us. Their size this season is what has dictated their superiority in their matches, and no kid is bigger on this roster than Ella Mauck Ella Mauck 6'0" | MB Wes-Del | 2024 State IN (’24, 6-1 MB). With speed, athleticism and the ability to defend from pin to pin, she’s a tough one to beat. Add in Amelia Hudson-Roberts (’25, 5-11 MB), and you have a pair of bigs in a small school that are hard to contend with in this class.
#3: South Central (26-0)
The last remaining undefeated team in class 2A are a bunch of Satellites. Led by Tatum Wade (’24, 5-10 OH), this squad can hop on her back and ride the six-kills-per-set attacker throughout the postseason. As part of the 1000 kill club, one would expect nothing less. However, teams will key on her in October, so let’s insert Samantha Marks (’26, 5-8 OH) into this mix. She’s a great primary passing complement to Miss Wade, and should be able to keep defenses honest.
#2: Linton-Stockton (22-4)
The Miners hold fast to the #2 spot again this week, thanks mostly to the hard work of Ella Warrick Ella Warrick 5'9" | OH Linton-Stockton | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-8 OH). She’s a springy and athletic outside who has all the tools to be a primary passing outside at the next level, all while averaging five kills per set. Sophie Hale Sophie Hale 5'5" | DS/L Linton-Stockton | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-6 OH) is a surprising partner in crime with Ella, adding a couple of kills per set while excelling at the defensive side of things.
#1: Burris (22-2)
The Owls are back. Firmly planted in the top spot for the last few weeks, these young ladies from Muncie are owning all of 2A. Their losses are to 4A #10 Noblesville and 4A Greenfield-Central. Not bad for a little 2A school. Their match against 3A New Castle tonight should be a fun one. Lilly Howell Lilly Howell 6'2" | MB Muncie Burris | 2025 State IN (’25, 6-2 MB) is the biggest difference maker in 2A, without question. Her size, speed and high volleyball IQ make for great volleyball. Aubrey Miller Aubrey Miller 5'7" | DS/L Burris | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-6 OH) can also put a ton of balls away, all while being a primary passing outside.
