It’s been a hot minute since we’ve had a commitment radar report for the kids out of Michigan.
The 2023s are off and well into their rookie seasons with their collegiate programs. Meanwhile, this summer saw the 2024s begin to dwindle in size of what was left of the uncommitted. For the 2025s, the floodgates have opened! Some of the top names in the junior class have been scooped up by some big time programs. I am sure there will be more major announcements from that class within the remainder of high school season.
Without further ado, let’s catch you up on all the big commitments coming out of Michigan since we last updated!
Victoria Gray Victoria Gray 6'2" | MB Bedford | 2025 State #100 Nation MI to Indiana
6’3 MB – Bedford/Michigan Elite
She came bursting onto the scene in 2023. Starting off on Michigan Elite’s 18 Mizuno squad, still unsure whether to pursue basketball or volleyball further, it was when Victoria Gray Victoria Gray 6'2" | MB Bedford | 2025 State #100 Nation MI joined forces with 16 Mizuno where it all came together. A national title run at AAU Nationals and a top 10 finish at USA Nationals in 16 Open with Michigan Elite. Now, with Bedford, Gray is leading the Mules to an unprecedented season hitting well over .400 for the season, leading with 3.3 kps and 1.2 bps.
Gray had a ton of looks from the ACC, but ultimately decided to go B1G with the Indiana Hoosiers. The Hoosiers currently sit 16-8 on the 2023 season and are considered one of the dark horses of the Big Ten with a recent upset over No. 17 Purdue.
Kaylin Schroeder Kaylin Schroeder 5'6" | S Bedford | 2025 State MI to Eastern Michigan
5’8 S/DS – Bedford/L2
Right there alongside Gray, making the magic happen at, now No. 9, Bedford is Kaylin Schroeder Kaylin Schroeder 5'6" | S Bedford | 2025 State MI . Another player that had quite an explosive year in 2023, Schroeder will take her talents just 40 miles north to Eastern Michigan University. This is a mid-major in a brand new era. With recent coaching changes just this past summer, Schroeder acts as one of the first players to be recruited by HC Kevin Foeman.
Schroeder is capable of running a highly effective offense. With L2, she led the way to the newly formed club’s first ever top 10 finish at AAU Nationals. Now, she is entering the MHSAA post-season pacing one of the most effective offenses in all of Michigan HS Volleyball. She’s been named All-SEC twice in her career and will be one of the shoe-ins for All-State honors in November.
Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI to Toledo
5’11 OH – SMCC/Michigan Elite
We’re keeping to a theme here with the southeast Michigan kids. The perennial powers that be, the SMCC Kestrels, is sending yet another player to the collegiate ranks. Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI will not be going far from home, just a quick 30 minute drive south to the University of Toledo. Like Schroeder, Costlow wants in on the MACtion.
Costlow, alongside Gray, was an integral part to the highly successful 16 Mizuno team this last club season. Looked at as one of the top six rotation players in the midwest, there is not much that Costlow cannot do on the court. A dynamic attacker as well as a fluid defender, she is the x-factor fan any team. This fall, Costlow has been leading the way for top ranked SMCC (D3) in hopes of making a grand return to Kellogg Arena in just a few short weeks.
Cambria Gaier Cambria Gaier 5'11" | OH Caledonia | 2025 State MI to South Alabama
5’11 OH – Caledonia/FaR Out
From southeast Michigan to the west side, FaR Out VBC is sending a few of their best guns down south. One of the first 2025 commitments to be announced out of the cannon was OH Cambria Gaier Cambria Gaier 5'11" | OH Caledonia | 2025 State MI . An AAU All-American this last summer, Gaier was critical in FO’s 16 Black’s top 5 finish at AAU Nationals. Alongside this, Gaier has elevated her game even further this fall as she vastly approached 500 kills in a single season.
South Alabama is another program in the beginning stages of new leadership with HC Jesse Ortiz at the helm since 2021. South Alabama currently sits amongst one of the top teams in the Sun Belt conference.
Elyse Heffner Elyse Heffner 6'1" | MB Traverse City Central | 2025 State MI to South Alabama
6’1 MB – Traverse City Central/FaR Out
Right alongside her club teammate Gaier, Elyse Heffner Elyse Heffner 6'1" | MB Traverse City Central | 2025 State MI will be looking to continue their winnings ways down at South Alabama in the fall of 2025. Heffner has been having a really promising 2023 year. Between a top 5 finish at AAU Nationals in the summer and a really exciting fall season with TCC. This is a player with an unrecognizable ceiling. Heffner could play multiple positions along the net and make huge impact.
With the addition of both Gaier and Heffner, this is shaping up to be one promising recruiting class for Coach Ortiz and Co. Both are bourgeoning players in their own right and yet have had such great success already. Keep tabs on South Alabama for the next several years.
