Many top-ranked players have been carrying the load and are counted on to perform when it counts, and there are always under-the-radar athletes that emerge during the school season as difference makers. We dive into several juniors who have been on fire for their teams this fall!
Achziger has La Center right back at the top of the 1A standings and RPI, the junior libero makes big plays to keep her team rolling. She is a libero who is willing to get on the ground with abandon, and has strong hands when she handles attacks overhand. Billie Ross is having an MVP type season with her offensive performance this season, a huge deal of credit goes to Achziger for her steady passing in serve recieve and precise free-ball passing.
Mt. Rainier is starting to gel as a team, and Taliloa is leading the way from the outside for the third straight season. Early season losses to Tahoma and Kentwood were reversed into victories when the Rams played the two for a second time. Versus the two conference foes, Taliloa racked up 24 kills in each victory, adding 16 a 9 kills in the matches respectively. The team has zero seniors, and its been a season of growth- Taliloa and 2025 libero Manaia Alefaio-Foifua give a rapidly developing team a chance to win every match.

Eastlake has the roster to make a run in the playoffs and do work in the state tournament if they can make it through the gauntlet in the Kingco/Wesco Division 1 & 2 bracket. Neubauer is part of a talented group of attackers, taking huge swings when the Wolves need it the most. She is not afraid to challenge the block, and can take a ball off high hands or use her beach smarts to drop a soft off-speed shot. She is racking up 4 kills a set while being heavily used in serve receive and playing solid defense. The rest of the 2025 class is strong with established stand outs attacker Finley Johnson and setter Alison Phipps joined by breakout performer MB Kylie McCartney. Eastlake is in contention now and will be again next season with this deep group.

Sneva is showing her versatility and growth as an attacker this season. She is blasting away at teams from both pins as well as the middle, and has increased her hitting percentage while taking far more swings than she did as a sophomore. Peninsula has needed her to fill the role of #1 attacker, and she has delivered, helping the Seahawks to a 10-4 record that has them in second place of the South Sound Conference.

Sheppard is a three year starting setter for a team that wins, wins, wins, a huge measure of a successful setter. The 5’10 junior has great hands and is making the right decisions spreading the ball around to her three excellent seniors, Danielle Brown, Rebecca Wilber and Leilah Lemalu. Puyallup is 14-1 officially per the WIAA, and are on a looong winning streak since a September 5th defeat to Curtis- played without Sheppard. The Vikings are ready to make another big run at the state title this season.

Lakeside has faced some adversity this season, to be expected after graduating a large and awesome senior class that led the program to the 3A state title. Gao had her fingerprints and platform all over that title, and has worked harder and better this season as one of the leaders on the floor. The improvements are subtle but there, her aggressiveness and movement taking any ball she can are outstanding, and she saves so many points with her ability to cover. Gao is overhand setting on point and has a command of the court that you can feel. The Lions will be in for a battle as the playoffs start, Gao will have the team excited and ready to compete for every ball in the postseason.
