Leading up to the October 22 sub-state tournaments, I will look at players from each division who could impact a sub-state tournament and lead their team to the state tournament.
This is the fourth sub-state preview report and focuses on Class 3A prospects who hope to qualify for the state tournament in Hutchinson.
Addison Budke Addison Budke 6'0" | OH Beloit | 2025 State KS , 6’1”, OH, Beloit ‘25
Beloit is the team to beat in Class 3A. With a record of 31-2, they project as the No. 1 seed in the Marysville sub-state. Budke leads the team in kills with 432 kills. She is a legit Division I prospect. Nemaha Central (28-3) will be the main threat to Beloit qualifying for state.
Cy Rae Campbell Cy Rae Campbell 5'11" | MB Heritage Christian | 2024 State #45 Nation KS , 5’11”, MH/OH, Heritage Christian Academy, ‘24
Campbell is one of the top players in Kansas and has committed to play for Wake Forest. She has 215 kills in 73 sets played. She also has 32 total blocks. The Chargers have a record of 28-4 and will be the No. 1 seed in the West Franklin sub-state.
Addison Goree Addison Goree 5'10" | S Wichita Collegiate | 2024 State KS , 5’11”, S, Collegiate, ‘24
Goree is a tall and athletic setter. She leads Collegiate in assists with 511 in 61 sets played. She also has 113 kills. The Spartans at 28-3 will play in the Haven sub-state and should get tough competition from Cheney at 26-3.
Kimmy Combs, 5’10”, S, Neodesha ‘26
Combs is a young setter for the Bluestreaks. She has 323 assists in 56 sets played as a sophomore. She has solid hands as Neodesha (25-3) in place to be a No. 1 seed in the Fredonia sub-state. Humboldt with a record of 25-5 will be the big challenger for a spot in Hutchinson.
Gabby Reif, 5’5”, OH/DS, Hoisington, ‘25
Hoisington will battle Holcomb for the No. 1 seed in the tournament in which the Cardinals serve as the host. Reif is a sneaky quick defensive specialist who has solid footwork. She has 291 digs and 332 serve receptions in 72 sets played.
Lexie Mallatt, 5’4”, OH/L, Riverton, ‘25
Mallatt is a nice all-around player for the Rams. She has 422 serve receptions and 311 digs for Riverton in 65 sets played. Riverton (16-9) is projected to be the No. 3 seed in the sub-state that it will host. Frontenac (24-8) and Girard (22-11) will be the top two seeds in that sub-state.
Kinsey Perine Kinsey Perine 5'6" | OH Rossville | 2024 State KS , 5’9”, OH, Rossville, ‘24
Perine is a solid hitter for Rossville. She has 396 kills in 67 sets played. She also has 229 digs and 258 serve receptions. Rossville (19-7) is projected to be the No. 1 seed in the St. Mary’s sub-state and will get stiff competition from Silver Lake (24-10) and Hiawatha (18-10).
Hope Duncan Hope Duncan 5'8" | DS/L Smoky Valley | 2024 State KS , 5’9”, OH, Smoky Valley, ‘24
Duncan, a Fort State University commit, is having another solid season. She has 319 kills, 248 digs, and 286 serve receptions. She recently hit the 1,000-career mark in all three statistical categories. Smoky Valley (20-10) projects to be the No. 2 seed in the Halstead sub-state. The host Dragons will be the No. 1 seed with a 29-record.
