I scouted two matches featuring Pleasant Ridge against Jackson Heights and Valley Falls.
Here are prospects from those three teams who caught my eye.
Brynn Shupe, 5’6, OH, Jackson Heights, ’26
I enjoyed watching Shupe. She has a solid all-around game. The sophomore finished with six digs, five serve receptions, and three kills. She has a solid foundation to work with, if she dedicates herself to the game and improves her upper body strength – she has the potential to be a solid prospect by the time her senior season rolls around. She entered the match with 306 digs, 287 serve receptions, and 126 kills for the Cobras.
Dawson Cochrane, 5’7”, OH, Jackson Heights, ’24
Cochrane is a solid under-the-radar member of the Class of 2024. Against Pleasant Ridge she collected a team-high seven kills, to go along with five serve receptions, and three digs. She entered the match leading the Cobras in all most very relevant categories with 339 digs, 283 kills, and 372 serve receptions.
Ava Potter, 5’9” OH, Pleasant Ridge, ‘24
Potter is one of many frustrating prospects I have come across in Kansas. She has all kinds of talent but doesn’t realize it and is not sure if she has a future in college ball, as she plays for a small school that gets little exposure. The senior outside hitter entered the game with 299 kills. In the match against the Cobras, she finished with nine kills and seven digs. When she gets up on top of the ball she has a mean swing. Potter also has a nice serve and had 41 aces heading into Tuesday’s final matches. I would recommend her to any NAIA coach in Kansas. She had 13 kills in the win over Valley Falls and nine kills against Jackson Heights.
Izzy Bryan Izzy Bryan 5'1" | DS/L Pleasant Ridge | 2027 State KS , 5’2”, DS, Pleasant Ridge, ‘27
Bryan is a solid freshman prospect who made the varsity team. She has been playing back-row only for the Rams. She finished with one dig, one serve reception, and two aces in the win over Jackson Heights. In the nightcap, Bryan had one dig, one reception, and two aces. Bryan plays club ball with Dynasty and has plenty of time to continue to hone her game.
Peyton Lockhart, 5’6”, OH, Valley Falls, ‘24
Lockhart is an athletic prospect who also plays softball. She is a leader and understands her strengths and weaknesses. She finished with two kills, three digs, and four serve receptions. Lockhart is a smart player and communicates well on the court. She could be an asset for an NAIA program still looking for members in the Class of 2024.
