Prep Dig will be covering multiple matches every week and featuring the players that stand out the most for their performances over the course of the season, but we’ll also preview some matches that have the potential to be very interesting ones.
District play is entering its final weeks and the battle for the highly-coveted playoff spots is reaching its climax, with several big games taking place around the state. Here’s one of them:
O’Connor vs. Warren – October 13, 5:30 PM – @ Paul Taylor Field House
O’Connor
The O’Connor Panthers from Helotes are in second place in Division 6A – District 26 with nine wins and three losses and have defeated Warren in a dramatic five-set match in the first round of district play – they have a 23-15 win record for the season. Outside hitters Kendall Mckee (senior), Madison Libson and Jaylyn Tuiasosopo Jaylyn Tuiasosopo 5'10" | OH O'Connor | 2026 State TX (sophomores) have been leading the team’s offense with 310, 207 and 171 kills respectively. Defensively, senior libero Carly Chavez Carly Chavez 5'7" | DS/L O'Connor | 2024 State TX is having a monster season, with 692 digs and 393 passes. At setter, senior Laney Blake Laney Blake 5'5" | S O'Connor | 2024 TX and junior Sofia Chapa have been running the offense together, having registered 392 and 260 assists so far. Senior middle Navaeh Smith is another one making a huge impact at the net, with 164 kills and 61 blocks.
Warren
The Warren Warriors from San Antonio are currently in third place in the district with a campaign of nine wins and four losses – considering the entire season, the team has 27 victories and 11 defeats. Senior outside hitter Grace Owens Grace Owens 5'8" | OH Warren | 2024 TX has been a key player for the Warriors this season, leading their offense (415 kills) and serve-receive efforts (563 passes). Senior middle Natalia Rodriguez Natalia Rodriguez 5'9" | MB Earl Warren | 2024 TX has also been very effective for the team at the net, having produced 304 kills and 43 blocks to rank second in both skills. Junior Justine Flores Justine Flores 5'4" | DS/L Earl Warren | 2025 TX has been Warren’s backcourt general for another season, having tallied 829 digs and 483 passes so far. The Warriors also count on a pair of talented junior setters in Naomi Gamboa Naomi Gamboa 5'6" | S Warren | 2025 TX and Azalea Deleon, who have 495 and 438 assists respectively.
