#5: South Adams (24-4)
The Starfires are quietly putting together an exceptional season in their corner of the state. Although smaller than most of the top teams listed here, attackers Macy Pries (’24, 5-8 OH) and Reagan Bollenbacher (’26, 5-7 OH) are springy and strong athletes that can terminate from anywhere. The draw has them on break next week until Saturday in the sectional semifinal, where they’ll play the winner of Whitko (14-12) and Bluffton (9-19).
#4: Wes-Del (22-5)
The Warriors are yet another team from the Muncie area that are used to making Worthen their home-away-from-home, specifically one of two on this list hailing from Delaware County. The IHSAA sectional lottery gods smiled kindly on these Warriors, as they have a bye until the semifinal on Saturday. They will host the winner of Lapel (19-7) and 2A defending champ Wapahani (18-7). We know that senior leadership will be key on October 14, which forces us to take a long look toward Ella Mauck Ella Mauck 6'0" | MB Wes-Del | 2024 State IN (’24, 6-1 MB) and Jennah Love (’24, 5-6 S). These two should dictate how far the Warriors go, as this sectional looks to be one of the toughest class 2A.
#3: South Central (28-0)
The last remaining undefeated 2A school are the Satellites, who also received a bye to the sectional semifinal on October 14. Attackers Tatum Wade (’24, 5-10 OH) and Samantha Marks (’26, 5-8 OH) will be the primary attackers all day on that Saturday, with Miss Wade averaging north of six kills per set in the process. The Satellites host the winner of Hebron (15-13) and North Judson-San Pierre (20-10).
#2: Linton-Stockton (24-4)
The Miners have so much going for them after a solid outing in Circle City’s summer league a few months ago. Ella Warrick Ella Warrick 5'9" | OH Linton-Stockton | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-8 OH) might not look like much, but do not underestimate her. She’s a spitfire and a workhorse all wrapped up into a volleyball machine. Taryn Thuis Taryn Thuis 6'2" | RS Linton-Stockton | 2025 State IN (’25, 6-2 RS) is part of the youth movement at Linton-Stockton, and she shows a rare bit of size in this class. The Miners open at North Daviess (11-18) on October 12.
#1: Burris (22-3)
The second of two Muncie-area teams on this top five list, these Owls have yet to lose to any teams in 2A this fall. Lilly Howell Lilly Howell 6'2" | MB Muncie Burris | 2025 State IN (’25, 6-2 MB) is the biggest reason why, literally and figuratively. She can take over a match at any time, and defends from pin to pin with the best of them. Mya Trammell Mya Trammell 5'4" | DS/L Burris | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-5 OH) is a fun-sized outside that is consistent in her ball control and can put balls away to keep defenses honest. Their sectional opener is against Winchester (9-19) on October 12. Cheers to the IHSAA for their algorithm to put the two toughest teams in this sectional on opposite sides of the bracket (1A #4 Wes-Del is the other). That sectional final might have the loudest gym in the state on October 14.
