The cycle boasts plenty of talented prospects yet to commit to a college. Some schools will benefit from taking advantage of the deep pool.
Here are some hitters in the class that I’ve scouted this season that should be setting off the radar for programs at the next level. We’ll be writing about more ’25 outsides as well as players at other positions in the weeks and months ahead.
Wazac has enjoyed a breakout junior season for Cedar Rapids Prairie with 259 kills (.291) and 74.0 blocks. She shined for a strong Six Pack 15U squad during the club season as she’s young for her grade. Wazac has room to grow physically and as a player, giving her a ceiling that should be attractive to colleges. Her big lefty swing makes her a handful on the right side. She’s expanded her game this season, hitting more from the outside. She defends well from anywhere along the net.
Highlights
McComas is a very strong all-around volleyball player that could end up helping a college at multiple positions. She leads a Top 15 5A team in digs (213) and ranks second in kills (206). She benefits from quick reflexes, refined skills and explosive athleticism. Her swing is strong and powerful. McComas sees the court well and directs her hits accordingly. She can handle incoming pace from the back row, settling the ball into a usable pass. Her blocking is improving.

Sell has steadily improved throughout her high school career. She’s playing in the middle and on the outside. She’s capable of swinging it from the right side as well. With her long arms and good timing, she defends the net really well. She holds up solidly in the back row with sharp reflexes and good lateral movement. Her versatility makes her an attractive prospect but so does her potential in reaching impressive heights. She’s piled up 227 kills, 142 digs and 60.0 blocks this season.
Hildebrand has gone from leading the Lightning in assists during last year’s state championship run to pacing it with 322 kills in ’23. She also has 343 assists, 269 digs and 41.0 blocks in ’23. Hildebrand is a complete volleyball player with a broad set of skills. The ability to help a team all around the court and wherever it needs it are traits that make her a steal on the recruiting trail. She also has a strong understanding of the sport and feel for the game.
Hacker got my attention during last year’s state tournament with her excellent play. She’s followed up a super sophomore campaign with a wonderful junior year. She’s stacked up 386 kills to go with 239 digs and 38.0 blocks. She’s 6-1 with long arms, which certainly helps. She’s also a really good athlete with explosion and advanced skills. The swing is the thing with Hacker, but she’s a complete player.
Passmore is powerful and efficient. She’s pounded out 305 kills, hitting .291. She’s added 51.0 blocks and 82 digs. She hits the ball with extreme force from a high point with her impressive leaping ability. Passmore can penetrate block attempts with the force of her hits and also sees the court well to avoid them with her offerings. She’s agile and moves well with quick reflexes.
I scouted Hermanson for a pair of early-season matches. She impressed me with her versatility and feel for the game. Unfortunately, she’s been sidelined with an injury for a big chunk of the season. When healthy, she succeeds because of her athleticism, timing and strong swing. Her quick reactions help her in defending the back row or in rising above the net. Her long arms help her play taller.
