Continue ReadingAnkeny Christian won a championship in its first trip to the state tournament in 2022. The Eagles followed up that performance with another title this fall. Their three losses came against 2A semifinalists Grundy Center (twice) and Denver.
Holy Trinity Catholic reached the state final match for the first time since winning it all in ’14. BCLUW advanced to the 1A semifinals in its first state tournament appearance. Boyden-Hull rounded out the final four in this class, the Comets’ third state appearance in the last four years.
Standout performers helped the semifinalists experience super seasons, some of whom show up on the Prep Dig all-state teams. They were joined by a strong group in ’23:
FIRST-TEAM
Katie Quick Katie Quick 5'7" | S Ankeny Christian | 2025 State IA , ’25, S, Ankeny Christian
The Eagle junior makes sure the Ankeny Christian machine is well-oiled. She controls the court, setting up her hitters while also contributing all around the floor. Quick ranked fourth in 1A with 880 assists. She also contributed 179 kills, 269 digs and 18.0 blocks.
Carley Craighead Carley Craighead OH Ankeny Christian | 2025 State IA , ’25, OH, Ankeny Christian
Craighead represented Quick’s top target for the second year in a row. The junior hitter led the Eagles in kills (322) again. She’ll begin her senior season with 878 kills. She hit at .406 in ’23, adding 122 digs and 34.0 blocks.
Presley Myers Presley Myers 6'2" | MB Holy Trinity Catholic | 2026 State IA , ’26, MH, Holy Trinity
Myers paced 1A with 126.0 blocks and now is up to 211.0 through two seasons of high school. Her presence in the middle of the net changes opponents’ plans. She also ranked 14th in the class with 334 kills and showed more versatility as a sophomore as evidence by her 121 digs.
Sydney Anderson, ’24, S, BCLUW
Anderson held it all together as a senior setter with a keen understanding of where her teammates like the ball. Her 910 assists were the second most in 1A. She also recorded 294 digs, the third most on her team. Anderson added 51 kills and 24.0 blocks, illustrating her versatility.
Clara Hoegh Clara Hoegh 5'8" | S Boyden-Hull | 2025 State IA , ’25, S, Boyden-Hull
Hoegh is a very well-rounded setter, contributing all around the floor. The junior led the Comets with 674 assists and added 164 kills, 247 digs and 27.0 blocks.
Ellie Monahan Ellie Monahan DS/L Council Bluffs St. Albert | 2025 State IA , ’25, L, St. Albert
The St. Albert junior led 1A with 652 digs in helping her team get back to the state tournament for the first time since ’20. She chipped in with 87 kills and even managed 10 kills.
SECOND-TEAM
Mary Kate Bendlage Mary Kate Bendlage 5'10" | OH Holy Trinity | 2024 State IA , ’24, OH, Holy Trinity
The Crusader star stood out all around the court for her squad. She led Holy Trinity with 437 digs and ranked with 322 kills. She also contributed 35.0 blocks.
Macey Nehring Macey Nehring 5'4" | DS/L Ankeny Christian | 2025 State IA , ’25, OH, Ankeny Christian
Nehring joined Quick and Craighead in a trio that could not be matched in 1A. Nehring contributed 234 kills and 262 digs. With another junior, Anna Weathers Anna Weathers OH Ankeny Christian | 2025 State IA , back in ’24, the Eagles are poised for a three-peat.
Elsie Hoegh, ’27, OH, Boyden-Hull
Hoegh made a splash as a freshman on varsity in ’23. She led the Comets with 257 kills and ranked second in digs with 273. She also helped out with 17.0 blocks.
Kinzee Hinders Kinzee Hinders 6'0" | OH Newell-Fonda | 2025 IA , ’25, MH, Newell-Fonda
Newell-Fonda advanced to the state tournament for the first time in program history with Hinders cranking out 379 kills, the fifth most in 1A. Her 95.0 blocks were the third most in the class. She added 234 digs.
Aspen Falk, ’24, S, Saint Ansgar
The Saint senior handed out 653 assists during a run to the state tournament. She also contributed 150 digs, 76 kills and 24.0 blocks.
Addison Schares, ’25, S, Don Bosco
Schares’ 1,005 assists were the most in 1A in helping the Dons reach the state tournament for a second year in a row. The junior also registered 186 digs.
