The daily schedule at the Curtis Culwell Center featured the State Championship match in Division 1A, which had Blum as the winners, and the semifinals in Divisions 3A, which were won by Gunther and Bushland, and 4A, which had triumphs of Davenport and Randall.
These were the top players in each of the five matches:
Rumohr guided Blum to the State Tournament title for a second-straight title with a masterclass in the final against Harrold, which was won by the Lady Cats in four sets. The technical and emotional leader of the team, the senior setter excelled in her role, contributing all across the board to Blum’s success. Rumohr set a new record for assists at the State Tournament in Division 1A matches with 45 and also registered 21 digs, four kills, three aces and two blocks in a tremendous performance that deserverdely earned her the MVP award.
Gunter will have the opportunity to defend the state title they won last year in a big part thanks to Johnson, who made a difference for the Tigers as they topped Columbus in a five-set battle in their Division 3A semifinal. The junior outside hitter was all over the court during the match and her production gave her team the edge they needed to move forward. Johnson was outstanding offensively, getting a match-high 25 kills and two aces. Her defensive production was also off the charts, with 15 digs and six blocks.

After missing the opportunity of getting a three-peat last year, Bushland are back in the State Tournament final thanks to a dominant three-set win over Central Heights in the Division 3A semifinals. Their two setters played lights out and Sims stood out the most for her ability to contribute in different areas of the game. Besides amassing 17 assists, she was a stud on both sides of the ball, getting seven kills, 12 digs and two blocks in a solid all-around showing.
Davenport will play for the Division 4A title in their first trip to the State Tournament and Dodson was one of the reasons why they made it this far. The senior outside hitter was the team’s focal piece in a sweep of Celina in the semifinals and will be relied upon once again in the State Championship match. Dodson led all scorers in the match, tallying kills, and also contributed in other areas of the game, getting 11 digs and two aces.
Randall are one win away from successfully defending their Division 4A state title after a four-set victory over Salado in the semifinals. Repeating what she did last year, Gove was huge for the Raiders in the state semifinals, leading the team’s comeback after a first-set loss. The senior outside hitter was unstoppable offensively, getting 27 of the team’s 64 kills in the match, and also displayed her quality in other areas of the game, getting 21 digs, six assists, one ace and one block.
