2023 PD Michigan Top 250: The Setting Supremes

It was a showcase filled to the brim with talent. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The setters in the field were a rather small group;, but nonetheless, offered an opportunity to show off their chops. Here were some of the top setters at the Prep Dig Michigan's Top 250. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='483970' first='Abby' last='Hicks'] - Leland/Northshore</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A recent player added to my radar after a stellar Final Four run just a few weeks ago, [player_tooltip player_id='483970' first='Abby' last='Hicks'] continued to impress. I knew she would be well-rounded given the program she comes from, but I didn't realize how well-rounded she really was. Setting was amongst the best in the field, but I was really impressed with her back court play. Defensively, Hicks is rock-solid and in reception, she can hang with the top 'bros at the 250.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='226885' first='Allie' last='Davison'] - Marian/Michigan Elite</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='226885' first='Allie' last='Davison'] is coming off of a rather stellar fall season. Watching her in today's showcase and looking back at last year's Top 250, Davison has come a long ways. Not only is Davison moving around the court much smoother, but her delivery has vastly improved as well. She, too, is another setter with a great all-around game. Being a lefty, Davison offers up a lot offense to her game to go with her improved setting and solid defense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='490034' first='Eliana' last='Porta'] - Hartland/Team D</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Maybe one of my favorite finds of the day, I was really intrigued by what <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='490034' first='Eliana' last='Porta']</strong> brought to the table. While slightly undersized, Porta makes up for it with some high-level athleticism. Not only does Porta move well around the court, but she has a very fast and clean delivery of the ball. Porta seemed to be the setter that clicked the fastest with most of her hitters today. She has a great feel for the game and was quite timely with her sets during the 6v6 portion.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='261180' first='Korin' last='Hutton'] - Anchor Bay/Legacy</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This player embodies a lot of what makes a setter high level. She is loud on the court, has an infectious passion for the game and is a go-getter. Many times throughout the showcase of a 100+ athletes, [player_tooltip player_id='261180' first='Korin' last='Hutton'] was the most prominent presence in the gym. She is another player that is a returning Top 250 participant, and her game continues to grow at a nice pace. Hutton has the pieces to be a high-level setter, but also an incredible defender as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='489473' first='Julia' last='Gramlich'] - SMCC/Athlete HQ</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I was really intrigued with what this player brought to the court today. Maybe one of the tallest setters we had in the field, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='489473' first='Julia' last='Gramlich']</strong> has a nice touch on the ball. Her size offers up a lot of different options including a nice block and some offensive dumps occasionally. Being from the Kestrel cannon, I'll be keeping an eye on Gramlich throughout this coming club season. She could make herself a case to run the Kestrel offense next fall and maybe secure them an elusive state title.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='261193' first='Mallory' last='Johnson'] - Livonia Churchill/Force</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another Top 250 returner, [player_tooltip player_id='261193' first='Mallory' last='Johnson']'s game has really popped off since the last time I saw her in action. A much more steady presence on the court, Johnson moves a lot a smoother and has really tightened up on her location with the ball. She was an early eye-catcher at today's 250 with not only her setting, but some solid defense as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
