Below you will find some players who made what we deem to be drastic jumps to cap off 2023.
Afjonja makes an appearance in the top 20, sitting at 18 up from 38. She had a phenomenal senior season, finishing with 567 kills. She will take her game and smarts to Brown University in 2024.
Highlights
Burke also makes an appearance in the top 20 at 20. As Mill Valley made their state championship run this year, the arm of Burke was huge as she had 349 kills, including 13 in the state title match where she was nearly unstoppable. Her next stop will be Loyola-Chicago.
We had quite a few defenders make some leaps this time around and we start with Ourth. Previously she was ranked 46th and moved up 12 spots to 34. Her defense was key in Olathe West staying a top 15 team in the city this fall. She tallied over 400 digs and leaves as the school record holder in aces. She will be crossing over the state line to play at Missouri State.
Jumping over 50 spots, Deckinger is another defender who let her play do the talking this past year. The gutsy defender who overcame a broken back helped her Andover Central team reach the state tournament with over 350 digs in her final season. She was also an asset behind the service line with 67 aces. Her move was from 99 to 36.
Highlights
We are still stanning the defenders right now with Sher jumping from 54 to 39 after another good year for Olathe Northwest. The Indiana State signee had 338 digs and 457 receptions in helping the Ravens return to another state tournament in 2023.
With Fox’s 300 kills and 70 blocks, she made the jump from 126 to 48 in our updated rankings this winter. She saw her play elevate in numerous ways, specifically her offensive output and awareness. She delivered kills at almost a 60% efficiency rate and was a hard stop for opponents.
The Wichita product made a jump from 76 to 54 after a strong finish to her high school career. As a player who only had 55 kills as a sophomore to 262 as a senior shows her growth and develop over the years. She will be heading East to play for George Mason.
Highlights
Finishing up biggest jumps at 60, up from 125 is Barger. She was key for Eisenhower this year and they rallied around her over 200 kills as she made her way onto the all-league team in 2023.
