I traveled to Olathe for the Winter Warmup Challenge which took place at the Homefield Courts.
I watched three matches involving teams in the 15 Premier Pools.
The second match of the day in Pool B was a split-set match between Club North 15-1 and Topeka Fury 15-1.
Here is a look at four players who caught my eye on the Topeka Fury 15-1 club during the Pool B play.
Sydnee Sleichter Sydnee Sleichter 5'0" | DS/L Santa Fe Trail | 2027 State KS , 4’11”, L, Santa Fe Trail, ‘27
I was super impressed with the athleticism of Sleichter. The Fury libero also plays softball and wrestles. Much like you would expect from a wrestler she has a low-centered receiving frame and legs like tree trunks. She finished the match with five serve receptions, three digs, and one kill. She has a nice serve and is the type of team player colleges want in their programs. I have no idea which sport she will gravitate to in three years, but she could have a job in the WWE if she decides not to go that route.
Samantha McIntosh Samantha McIntosh 5'6" | S Washburn Rural | 2027 State KS , 5’6”, S/RS, Washburn Rural, ‘27
McIntosh had one of the best all-around games for the Fury. The Washburn Rural lefty has a nice serve and is a hustle player. Twice she went after balls that several players would not have sacrificed their bodies for. She finished with five digs, one block, and one ace.
Sydney VanDyke Sydney VanDyke 5'10" | MB Topeka West | 2027 State KS , 5’10”, MH, Topeka West, ‘27
I saw VanDyke play for the Chargers during the high school season and she impressed me then. She impressed me even more with her club squad. She has natural length and is going to get better as she gains more experience. She finished the match with four kills, one dig, and one block. She understands what she can do on the court and could be a real beast if she puts in some work in the weight room and adds some upper body strength.
Lauren Glasgow, 5’9”, OH/RS, Seaman, ‘27
I had five players I was torn between featuring as the fourth athlete for this report. I settled on Seaman’s Glasgow. The Vikings were Class 5A State Champions this year, so she is in a winning program that will help her down the road. I like her size, but I think she needs to try to slow the game down a little mentally in tight rallies. She finished with four digs, three kills, and three serve receptions. She was all over the court and played with high energy.
Four other Fury athletes I liked who I would like to see play at least one more time this club season are Mallory Tanking (Hayden), Savannah Jackson (Jefferson West), and Perry-Lecompton’s Charley Blosser and Olivia Scheer.
