The Austin Convention Center will host the first stop of the Central Texas Power League, which will feature teams from Austin, San Antonio and other cities in the region, which will compete in the 11s, 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s and 17s age groups.
The 17s division looks like a pretty interesting one to follow and here are five prospects to keep an eye out for:
An explosive outside hitter, Duncan will be a big part of AJV 17 Adidas’ offense this weekend. Very long and athletic, she can put the ball down against anyone and is a player her teammates rely on when big points are on the line. Duncan doesn’t hold anything back in any of the steps of her offensive approach, starting with a strong run, using all her power to get off the floor and swinging with impressive energy. She can score from the left, the right and the middle back and is capable of hitting different sets in each of these positions. Duncan is also solid and consistent on the backcourt, especially with her passing.

A versatile prospect, Laboone is one of the foundational pieces of her STVA 17 Navy team. She’s primarily used as a setter, but her excellent all-around game also allows her to play as a hitter on either pin and to contribute as a defensive specialist. When at setter, she has more of a cerebral style, keeping things simple and thriving with her consistency and reliability. Laboone is also a very good defender, getting herself in great spots and having great success most of the time she gets to make a defensive play. Offensively, despite not being very tall, she gets off the floor well and swings with impressive awareness, making few mistakes and finding ways to put the ball down.

Charlotte Voss
Charlotte Voss
Voss will have a major defensive role for AJV 17 Molten as the team’s starting libero. She’s very active on the backcourt and does a very good job at the left back position, reading the game well and getting early to the right spots. Voss is also very technical and very rarely her touches don’t find the setter exactly where she is. The libero is also a solid server and displays impressive focus to track plays and cover her hitters in every single play.
Huntleigh Morast
Huntleigh Morast
Capable of playing anywhere at the net, Morast will be one of the main offensive weapons of her STVA 17 Navy team. A six-footer, she has the size and the power to put the ball down from anywhere on the court and is also very versatile, being capable of hitting different sets. Morast does a very good job of fully stretching her arm to swing and has a quick right arm, but she’s also intelligent enough to score off of tips and roll shots when out of system. She’s used to being the main scoring option of her team and doesn’t slow down or feel the pressure of big moments.
Baskin has become one of the most exciting middles in her age group in Texas and will be in action with AJV 17 Adidas this weekend. She’s big, athletic and powerful and has consistently progressed in how she combines those skills to make a difference at the net for her teams. Baskin makes contact with the ball at a very high point and, when she gets into a rhythm, she’s very difficult to stop. Her mobility and athleticism also make of her a very productive blocker, allowing her to contribute on both sides of the ball.
